AVForums takes a shine to THX on Panasonic's TX-P50V10 plasma
Panasonic's new plasma TVs packing the NeoPDP panels are compiling a solid reputation across their respective price brackets, and now it's the V10 series' turn to continue that trend at the more expensive end of the spectrum. Stepping up from the G10 series, the 50-inch UK-model TX-P50V10 AVForums had on hand acquitted itself pretty well. The "sheet of glass" thin design looks nice, but it was the THX picture mode that saved the day. Despite the lack of image controls that videophiles love to tweak, the THX preset delivered very good performance right out of the gate; good enough that the reviewer gave it the nod over the G10 series. The review also noted that 24p material was handled correctly, which gives us hope that Panasonic's 96Hz refresh in the US models will finally put 3:2 pulldown artifacts to rest. Did get a great review indeed, though the lack of image controls of the UK version VS the European version is very strange.
Though very tempted, I have still just bought the 50" Kuro 5090.
Sweet. Looking forward to seeing reviews on this PDP.
£1900 for a 50" HD TV is not exactly what you'd call competitive here in the UK.
A 52" A656 Samsung with local LED dimming and an excellent LCD HD TV was close to 25% less in price here.
Personally I much prefer the Samsung as opposed to a dying tech panel.
Still can't beat the El Kuro.
Multi-format-mayhem. I would not say excellent and LCD in the same sentence. LCD's still suck compared to plasmas.
+1 for "I would not say excellent and LCD in the same sentence." the 650 are good LCDs, but they aint LED or excellent! anywho, can't beat a Kuro, huh? just curious, which Kuro you talkin bout and why do you think the v10s are inferior?
Once you go Kuro Blacks, you never go backs.
