After missing some great movies last week, for no good reason, we're back. The most exciting new release is easily Tom Cruise's
Valkyrie, but Paramount also has an old favorite in
Enemy at the Gates -- if you love playing the sniper in FPS games then this is a must see movie. Lionsgate gets ready for the latest Terminator movie in theaters by releasing special editions of the previous blockbuster hits. There are also a few TV shows this week which is a trend we like to see as
True Blood and
24 both get the Blu-ray treatment. Next week is a little slower though, but Universal does have a few more catch up titles -- yeah we can't believe there are still any left either.
- Valkyrie (MGM)
- Lions for Lambs (MGM)
- The Machinist (Paramount)
- Enemy at the Gates (Paramount)
- Paycheck (Paramount)
- Three Days of the Condor (Paramount)
- Changing Lanes (Paramount)
- My Bloody Valentine (Lionsgate)
- Terminator 2: Judgment Day (Lionsgate)
- Terminator 2: Judgment Day - Skynet Edition (Lionsgate)
- 24: Season Seven (Fox)
- Driven to Kill (Fox)
- Dr. Dolittle: Million Dollar Mutts (Fox)
- Batman (Warner)
- True Blood: The Complete First Season (Warner)
- A Bug's Life (Disney)
- Eden Log (Magnolia)
- Paul Blart: Mall Cop (Sony)
I'll be getting Batman, Bug's Life, andT2 this week. Great week for catalog titles!
grumble..... must. have. every. pixar title.
Wow, A Bug's Life. So are the Toy Stories out on BR, and if so, is that all the Pixar movies? I'm curious to hear how the transfer of a digital film to BR is for a film made in 1998. Does Pixar still have the original full-quality renders, and if so, what resolution did they make them to more than 10 years ago?

Toy Story BD won't hit till next year.
I wish we were even close to all of Pixar's movies being out, but after Monster's Inc. Comes out this Christmas with Up, we'll still be waiting for Toy Story 1 and 2, Finding Nemo, and the Incredibles. Its a safe bet that Toy Story will be out next year, but they've been promising Finding Nemo since the launch of the format. Its anyone's guess when we'll see that or the Incredibles.
'Monsters, Inc.' was supposed to come out on BD yesterday, but Disney/Pixar postponed it. There's even a trailer on the 'A Bug's Life' disc that says "NOW OUT ON BLU-RAY DISC".
But yeah, there's a lot of speculation about it coming out around the Blu-ray release of 'Up', which sounds likely. And 'Finding Nemo' should be coming out around the end of the year as well.
As of now, these are the only Pixar BD releases:
A Bug's Life
Cars
Ratatouille
Wall-E
Pixar Shorts: Volume 1
They re-rendered a Bug's Life for the Blu-ray release and even made some color adjustments (everyone who has seen the discs notes it was a positive change and nothing detrimental like you would consider DNR or edge enhancement). I've seen some screen captures of A Bug's Life and I was amazed to see how much detail even the ants' skins have.
Sounds good. Time to replace my DVD copy with the Blu-ray.
I couldn't find A Bug's Life. Musta been popular.
Took a chance on Valkyrie instead. Gotta say I was pleasantly surprised. Good video, good audio.....and Tom Cruise didn't demolish the set. Beat my expectations But here's the kicker:
The Valkyrie Legacy mini-feature is GREAT. If you are a history buff, and hate the movie I'd still recommend the disc just to watch that feature.
I'll probably get The Machinist, but the movie I don't see that I'd like to is Terminator.
The Mpeg2 release was underwhelming to many people and with the new Terminator out I can understand releasing T2 as that is there biggest seller, but if they just did Terminator right I think there would be lots of people willing to buy that.
Still might happen in a 4 pack when the Bale movie releases on BD but it would have been nice to see.
Valkyrie I'll rent on Netflix and see if it's worthy, it wasn't worth seeing in the theater for me.
