Listen up, aspiring HD content creators -- VOOM HD's
demise could be your gain. If the HD video features of the
latest crop of
DSLRs and
DILs (digital interchangeable lens) aren't enough for you, you'll have a chance to pick up some of VOOM HD's gear at an auction on June 16. Among the items up for grabs are a bunch of Sony HD camcorders, Canon HD lenses, and 5 Panasonic
PT-AE2000U projectors that we imagine would do a perfectly fine job in the living room. If you've got some cash burning a hole in your pocket, this could be a great way to jump-start your HD rig, but those attending the auction in person will need to watch out for snipers sitting in on the webcast.
This is great time for Viacom to buy some HD Cameras and gear for low price.
this actually makes me more sad than anything i've read about HD in a while. my favorite times of having HD on my TV were when Dish still had Voom and i could hit a weekend with nothing to do and just sit and watch Monsters HD for hours on end. i LOVED that network. it will go down in history as my favorite TV station ever. i was sad when Dish cut Voom, and i am sadder now that they the network is gone in every other way with no chance of a return.
Add one more to the list. I enjoyed the Voom channels and it is sad to see what happened to them. Who knows what really was the case between Dish and Voom. According to Dish they didn't provide the amount of new programming under contract, but who knows what we don't know. All I know is I REALLY miss Monsters HD. Now that was a channel, all high def. The only place to see all 5 Planet of the Apes films in one day in high def or Frankenstein, Tarantula, Friday the 13th or the other great Hollywood classics. I'll also miss FilmFest.
What interests me about Filmfest was that they showed a large quantity of United Artists high def movies, which are owned by MGM. MGMhd has not shown them. Those include Exodus, Gentlemen Prefer Brunettes, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and many other UA classics. MGM which owns that library does not show these titles. Who knows.
I miss Voom. Any company would be very smart to bring Monsters HD back to life, even if it is a pay channel!
I completely agree with you. It is is so sad. Voom is my favorite TV HD Provider ever even before Dish got them.
I agree on Monsters HD, it's sad to see that channel go away. It would be nice if some bigger group picked it up, but that's probably not gonna happen.
