DISH still trying to navigate a way around TiVo's DVR patent

It's a longshot, but DISH mentioned in a court filing Monday that it is still looking for a workaround that would keep its DVR from infringing on TiVo patents, but admitting it "does not know whether a further design-around is even possible." Multichannel News pulled out the one sentence filing, although whether DISH seriously believes it can do dual tuner recording without violating the "Time Warp" patent or is just stalling for time while it looks for an antidote is still unclear.

Uh, no. 20 years from the date of filing. I think I calculated this one to be June of 2015 back when I read this case.

Errrrm...no. What gives Dish the right to blatantly rip off TiVo's idea without at least paying royalities?

Let's say you invent the cure for cancer tomorrow and you patent it. Two weeks later, Pfizer starts mass-manufacturing a pill based off your cure patent. You really think you aren't going to sue.

Bogus patent? Hardly. It was TiVo who first brought this to market, claimed it, and now controls it. This is exactly what patents are for, and companies trying to get around it by not paying credit where it is due, will end up having to license them whether they want to or not.

TiVo is not the bad guy here.

I don't get it; what exactly is in this patent and how come Dish Network is the only company TiVo is going after, when Digeo, Microsoft, Cisco, Motorola, Pace, etc. all have DVR solutions?

Is TiVo simply going after the low-hanging fruit in order to set a precedent which to club the bigger guys?

They all took a license from TiVo way back. Echostar (Dish) is the only company that was itching to fight.

They're idiots. They know they infringed on someone else's wares, lost several times over in court, and like so many businesses willing to conduct businesses illegally, try every trick in their book to continue their ways.

But at least they have clueless cowsumers to support their legal division. :)
