Hi, great podcast , and I have a question. Just about to buy a new house, and I am going to have an opportunity to re-wire.
I have an xbox 360 currently attached to my 50" HD tv, and a gaming rig PC in the office. I tried doing a dry run with the xbox as an extender and the quality really sucked compared to an HDMI cable direct from PC to TV (have 2 tuner cards and a media library of m4v and avi files), so the question is, would I be best running HDMI cables from the PC (upstairs) to the TV and keeping the xbox as a game console only, or can I get better quality from the xbox as an extender over ethernet (100mbs connection)
If I am going to run HDMI down from the office, what is the best way to switch the HDMI source at the PC? I dont want to have to go upstairs and change monitor output, though I guess I can use VNC through my mobile?
Last Q, I have a surround amp with optical in, running back from the xbox, so using it as an extender would be advantagous in that respect, but when using it as an extender, does the surround sound get transmited, or is the xbox just guessing speaker output?
“An engineer explained to us that hundreds of ear impressions were gathered in the name of research, and while each one obviously boasted its own unique shape and size, one single characteristic remained uniform across the board: the entrance into the ear canal is not a perfect circle, it's an oval.”
