JVC shows off LED-backlit, 7mm-thin 1080p LT-32WX50 LCD HDTV
CEDIA's UK show is going on right now across the pond, and while things are rather quiet overall, JVC has definitely garnered a fair bit of attention with its 32-inch LT-32WX50. The 1080p set features 100Hz dejudder technology, a 4,000:1 contrast ratio, 90 percent of Adobe's RGB color space and -- here's the real kicker -- a thickness of just seven millimeters. The whole panel weighs just 11 pounds, meaning that even the weaklings should be able to transport, move and install this one sans any overpriced help from Geek Squad. Around back, there's a pair of HDMI inputs, a PC port, an SD card slot and a USB connector. If all goes well, it should start hitting retailers this fall, but there's no mention of when it'll ship stateside.

So if you want to see how thin it is, you'll notice that the viewing angles are rubbish. That's just sad.
Have a look at your pinky finger, chief. Your pinky is roughly 10mm in diameter, so just imagine a tv thinner than your pinky. Granted, some pinkies are thicker than others, and some are longer than others too. My girlfriend insists that it's not the size of your pinky that matters, though, but how you utilize it.
...because everybody sits 130+ degrees off axis of their TV.
Unless the picture quality is somehow better why would you care how thin the thing is?
'cool' factor of course XD
tres expensivo!
Does it come with a string and a nail?
Still patiently waiting for the 5mm thin hdtv.
I want HDTV wallpaper.
At 7mm thin the plug is probably bigger than the TV itself
those ultra thing tv's always have a big block on the back, which renders the whole thinness useless. i want a REAL 7mm thin tv thats 7mm thick everywhere. if that means u need a seperate box with a powersupply connectors and all that so be it.
Not really, esthetically it looks much sexier if the edges are thin like this tele. Take for example the Air as example or pretty much every other laptop with a sense of design they all have tapered edges and get fat at the middle as they all have the same problems like this television technically wise.
Ideally though if a producer would choose like Sony did with their OLED that all the thick stuff is placed in the base so the screen keeps it slimness.
Oddly.. people tend to complain that thin girls aren´t goodlooking yet in whatever design we try to achieve minimalistic is the trend to be. Which remembers me of the corolation between the buste size of girls in the Playboy and the economic situation, in a bad economic state the girls tend to be more round while in economic high tides thin is considered sexy.
Pretty sure he means that if you are hanging it on a wall or something you have that larger block in the back to deal with when hanging. makes it all kinds of frustrating.
That is one seriously lightweight tv...
I could care less how thin a 38+ inch TV is. Does it look good? I mean are we really that needy we would sacrifice picture quality for the aesthetically pleasing thin-ness? Most of the LCD TV's out there right now look more like an artwork anyways, so as far as I can tell the only upside to this is the OLED use and less power consumption. Thats what I like about it, Power consumption and response. LCD TV's suck up a lot of power even when they aren't on.

what Jordan says... and if it didn't have the fat block it would barely stick out of the wall, which looks really cool.
@JZ, you totally missed the point. i don't think its sexy to have a thick middle and thin edges, because that means there is space between the edges and the wall. omgwtf it has thin edges. but its still big because it sticks out. and i wasn't talking about the technical part.
if they boast about their thinness, make it 100% thin and dont lie about it. it is not 7mm. the edges are. if u crack open a regular lcd and place the controlling electronics and the inverter in a seperate box it will probably be less than 1cm thick, i don't see the big deal here.
I think it would cool in some cases, but given that you still have components and speakers that aren't thin I think a TV flat against the wall would look kind of dumb with everything esle sticking out further... and forget those BS in-wall speakers. Most people aren't going to be able to build A/V closets and the like.
@Jordan:
"I could care less how thin a 38+ inch TV is."
You mean you COULDN'T care less.
@vidikron
most people buying these things use high quality stand alone (not built-in) speakers connected to a separate amplifier (surround/home cinema set) anyways.
No fancy TV mounting gear needed. Just get a few of those 3M self adhesive picture hangers. Then just step back and make sure it is straight.
So dejutter means it wont look like crap like every other artificially sped up 240hz bs tvs? Thank god, cause really making every movie look like a cardboard cutout soap opera is not a selling point on a tv for me.
Who wouldn't want a TV with a 4,000:1 contrast ratio
oh crap -- hunny I broke the TV.
now, just throw in 120Hz so I can plug in my 360 and we've got a winner.
that is one ridiculously thin tv
Edge lit and not back lit surely? And please refer to it as an LED LCD. It's not an LED TV.
Look at how thick and deep the frame is. That would bother me more than thickness.
