You're right though. Now all I need is a compelling reason to visit my ATV more than once a week. I pretty much go in to check movie trailers or watch the random video podcast.

Most companies get the content but not the interface. Thanks for your article - I'm a big Apple TV and iPhone fan, and loving the new Remote app (the update actually makes it usable).

To your closing point: we've been working on a hardware + iPhone app solution to the universal remote since April '08. Earlier this month we launched a beta program, although we've had to close down because of demand. And yes, we do use multitouch gestures to solve the touchscreen/tactile feedback problem. I used to control my AppleTV with the Remote app on my iPhone... but it doesn't work perfectly anymore. I can control my iTunes library perfectly... but there is no more "control" button at the bottom of the screen, meaning that I can't scroll my fingers on the iPhone screen and navigate on the AppleTv menu...
