Yamaha intros RX-V1065 receiver
As we saw in February, Yamaha looks like it's stressing the "feature per dollar" theme for its receivers. But if your ego (or setup) can't stomach the thought of anything less than 100-Watts per channel, today's release of the RX-V1065 will set you right. The new 7.2-channel model cranks out 105-Watts through Yamaha's Digital Top ART circuitry and more codec support, YPAO room EQ, and Cinema DSP gadgetry than you can shake a stick at. The RX-V1065 also adds in support for HD radio and audio files on USB memory devices (WAV, MP3 and WMA). There's something for everyone -- even the haters will find something to like in the 29-pound weight that's the same as the lower RX-V765 model. At just under $1000 mark, we would have traded out the HD Radio and USB support for a second HDMI output, but we're greedy like that.

Any existing receivers have a second HDMI out? (That arent a bzillion dollars)
The RX-V3900 has a second HDMI out, it list's at $1899, but it can be found at least $200 less.
The Pioneer VSX-23TXH which was just announced has dual HDMI out for $900 MSRP:

So the UPS guy literally JUST unloaded this AVR off of his truck no more than 30 minutes ago. Haven't had a chance to check out the new GUI yet, although I'm assuming it's similar to the RX-V3900. What do you guys think of this compared to the RX-V765 for the extra $350 retail.
Yeah, is HD (hybrid-digital) Radio really worth $350? Dang royalties! I guess it has 2 sub outs and a little more power, same weight though. Not happy, but I will probably get it once it is under $700 free shipping/no tax.
HD Radio doesn't stand for Hybrid Digital Radio... FYI
Going with the Pioneer VSX 1019.
$499
The Pioneer VSX-1019 isn't even in the same class as this receiver. The Pioneer Elite VSX-23TXH would be a better comparison.
I was interested in getting the VSX-1019 until I learned it did not have 7.1 output, I was looking for a temporary pre/pro. For the same price (I actually got it for only $400), I ended up getting the Yamaha 765 as it fit the bill better.
@zargon VSX-1019AH supports 7.1
The Pioneer VSX-1019 does not have 7.1 outputs, meaning you cannot connect it to an external amp. It only has a sub out, which doesn't make it a very good candidate for a pre/pro.
I managed to pick up a pioneer elite SC-05 at BBY for $899 last week. Check your local....thats definitely the best deal on a high end receiver i've seen.
I like how Steven Kim proudly wrote: "will find something to like in the 29-pound weight that's the same as the lower RX-V765 model." as if its a good thing.....
Sarcasm, Andrew, sarcasm. It's why the phrase starts with "...even the haters..." and a hyperlink to a post related to feature creep at the expense of sonics.
Thats a happy thought. I am embarrassed to have missed that, sorry. Guess I am one of the haters with a bloodlust.
Just picked up the Onkyo TX-SR876 last week...140W, 7.1, 4 HDMI ins, 2 HDMI outs, 55 lbs and loving it.
$1,700 - 700 coupon = $1,000!! Can't imagine this Yamaha compares for the same price.

too bad the 876 doesn't use both HDMI outs at the same time. I just ordered the VSX-23TXH direct from Pioneer - ships on the 20th. Not soon enough. I almost pulled the trigger on the Denon 4310ci at 2 grand.
Does this model allow assignable digital inputs or is it missing like the lower models?
From what I understand, I have not personally upgraded yet, the new firmware at least for the 765 adds that ability.
how does yammies room EQ compare to Audyssy? What scaler is this AVR using? The read link didnt elaborate.
I'm looking to upgrade my AVR and have been real happy with my old Denon. Will probably stay with Denon.
The RX-V3800 is still available for the fire sale price just south of $999, which is about half off. It weighs in the 50lb range as well. I upgraded from an RX-V795, and the sound improvement is absolutely amazing. Very detailed, even my wife noticed it and *brags* about it!
Since the Onkyo + Coupon was mentioned, I figured this baby was fair game too. :-)
Definitely be a much better amp for the money, though you sacrifice some non-sound features like dual HDMI outs... but I think it's XM ready.

The Pioneer VSX 1019 is cheaper by far and has more features. Yammy really skimped out on this receiver and is charging you about a grand.
