LG slips 30-inch OLED panel production into 2012
With LG's 15-inch OLED TV coming to stores in December it can't be long until LG's mid-sized TV's start showing up for retail right? After all, Samsung and Sony are on record with claims of producing mid-sized OLEDs as early as this year and no later than mid-2010. Not so fast, literally. Although LG had previously targetted 2011 for the mass production of its 32-inch OLED TV, CEO Kwon Young Soo now says that LG plans on producing 30-inch OLED panels for TVs in 2012. Of course, all those earlier OLED projections were made before the global economic collapse so delays have to be expected, however upsetting it may be.

Two questions:
1) What is the Price?
2) Do we know how long OLED screens last yet?
If the whole point of these screens is to come even closer to a perfect image, seeing what the director intended... thats fantastic, BUT with the glare that screen shows, in any room with any sort of lighting at all, the glare, and reflections can only negate the benefits of that improved image.
I hope the manufacturers don't go down this route of making the average Joe say "wow" with the shiny screens and extreme contrast / brightness.....
Mark -- I think that glare is coming from the "look with your eyes, not your hands" case over the TV.
Does anybody know have they done anything with the resolution. I would hope they wont be 480 pixels of gloriousness like the 11" sony is now.
I think the glass plays a big part in how the image looks. 'Glossy' glass just looks sharper, like a glossy picture. It has glare, but it's sharper. People all the time look at my 720p plasma and think it appears sharper than their 1080p LCDs and rear projection sets.
I see what you are saying, my Samsung Series 9 is very shiny, looks terrific, but half of the time I am looking at my rear wall / myself, when the scenes are dark.... Thats just not good enough. They need to keep the glossyness down to a bare minimum. OK it might appear less sharp but your seeing more of the original image, guarantee you that.
The Problem with the Mat finish is it is exactly that a Mat finish. Would your rather look through glass or foggy glass. I choose the second.
Just turn off the lights:)
LG, pleeeez fix the narrow viewing angles!!! maybe then we'll have a true plasma predecessor...
