Engadget HD Podcast 147 - 07.22.2009
We've got a very special treat for you on the podcast this week, joining the usual crew are Robert Heron and Patrick Norton of the show HDNation. After discussing the new show we dive right in, with plenty of discussion around Toshiba's Blu-ray plans, the problems of BD-Live and why Blu-ray has such a bad reputation in certain circles. There's also a few tidbits about the Media Center features spotted coming to Windows Home Server, what to expect from On Demand Online and why we're so excited every preseason NFL game will be in high definition. Saved for last are some digs at the BBC & F1 racing for being HD laggards, plus a few audio comments, so quit with the reading and get to listening.Get the podcast

Thanks for answering my BDP question!
TechTV pure geek TV heaven.
Poor Richard.... seemed left out of the Podcast
5 people is too many... 4 is OK.... 3 is ideal... 2 gets boring.
Man I really wish I could have made that live show. This is Gr00v3r in the live chat. I think it is great you got Patrick and Robert on the Podcast.
Hey guys, thanks for hitting up my question. A couple of follow ups - Thanks for the info on 32bit vs 64bit that was exactly the kind of stuff i was worried about in the decision. I was planning to use media center to record the content and some of the wonderful plug-ins to rip commercials and hopefully re-encode some of the content for an easy sync up to my iphone. I know the DVRMStoolbox will handle a lot of that for me but any other plug-ins you might recommend would be great. I plan to run 360's as extenders to my TV's so the mention of divx preview is going to be helpful for playing back other media i will likely have stored on my new box.
Just a comment on Partick's story about his wife's comment on being able to see things like the fact that candles were being used in that movie. Thats not unique to bluray.... I would bet any amount of money that if that movie was available on other HD download services she would have been had the same comments about the quality of the picture.
I fully admit that bluray is the best out there right now but acting like bluray is the only place to get good looking HD doesnt sit right with me. (and thats the attitude many people around here seem to have). And for the vast majority of people either option will be more than good enough (which is why you are seeing comments like ryan block and that brittish guy mentioned)
Just a thought.
With HD Nation up and running (in HD also), Engadget HD podcast (audio only) seems kinda dated guys
i disagree. i love the video podcasts and such but i have WAY more opportunities to absorb audio only content than I do video. Glad to have the options but i seldom have a week that any audio podcasts get missed, unlike the whopping 2 video podcasts i subscribe to which are frequently lost to the ages amidst the daily grind.
Richard:
You have to stop moving to & away from the mic. Secondly, speak up. You mumble too much and talk too low that when I turn the volume up, it sounds like Ben & Steve are screaming.
Can you get a little closer to the mic and speak up & clearly? Please?
Love the show.
Right on all counts.
Saw this commercial on ESPN, this crap just annoys me!

Both "So You Think You Can Dance" and "Hell's Kitchen" are in HD.
There is something wrong with the podcast in the zune feed. It only shows up as 10 minutes. I had to manually add it. I guess that serves me right for using a zune.
My Zune feed worked fine.
