DVRs, Panasonic's DMR-BW970 Blu-ray DVR squirrels away 2TB of your video
In parts of the world where Blu-ray DVRs are available, there's not a lot to be done in the way of new features or radical improvement. They've already got a lot of the convergence features ironed out, but one thing every media-saturated home can use is more storage. Enter Panasonic's new DMR-BW970 Blu-ray DVR with a capacious 2TB of hard drive storage, which means that by the time you sift through its hundreds of hours of recordings, new content will be popping up in the library. Seriously, if you can't find something worth watching with that much of a back-catalog, you should just pull away from the TV, get outside and try real life for a while -- it's fascinating and one-in-five people find it to be almost as good as HD.

Will it be possible to rip your DVD/Blu-ray titles into this units hard drive? If so, that would be nice...
And this will make it to the U.S. when? NEVER. Because the MPAA doesn't like it and the CE companies are afraid of the MPAA.
There needs to be a revolution against the MPAA and RIAA (peacefully and in Congress of course)
Yeah, too bad we'll never see this or anything like it in the US. I really wish they made products like this for the US though. Or at least a DVR without any subscription (something that would work just like a VCR did, only without VHS tapes of course). I really don't need nor want to pay a company like TIVO monthly to automatically record shows that I like. I mean, it's not hard to program/set the recorder for certain times/shows you want. We all did this for many many years with VCRs, it wasn't hard. Anyway, I'll stop bitching now. But if anyone knows of a DVR without subscription (except Moxi... I don't want to pay $800), and not doing it with a HTPC (friend of mine has been trying to convince me to get a Mac mini), please let me know. I would greatly appreciate it.
Best Regards
Check out the DTV Pal from Dish network. It sells for $249.99 and does not require any contract, fees or activation charge.

I have a DTVPal DVR and love it. I need to upgrade the hard drive for more storage but will wait until after the 90 days is over. If you have good TVGOS data in your market its a great OTA system. Also have Media center running on Windows & right now. Its great for what the DTVPAL will not do.

Been using one for years. Great.
Take a look at the sony dhg hdd250 or 500. It records ota tv for free without any subscription. Just make sure the locals in your area send out a tvgos signal ota. I havn't paid a cable or sat bill in 3 years because of this device.
Um, those have been discontinued for at least a couple of years now. And of the three units I went through and multiple dealings with Sony, they didn't reliably record a whole series. My crappy cable DVR has been much more reliable for a long time now.
hmm.. sounds like a few good options! thank you. I'll definitely look into this.
You are very unlucky, or I am just unlucky. No problems with mine. Yes they are discontinued, nobody really new what the dang thing was for when they came out and I don't think they sold a whole lot. You can get them off ebay easy enough. Is somebody had an issue with the units, it was usually because they didn't get the tvgos signal broadcast in their area.
