Waiting on the next generation of Sony LED-backlit LCDs?
FlatpanelsHD has some information on the next edition of Sony's
BRAVIA sets, dubbed in the UK as the X5500. The key difference here is instead of the company's current
Motionflow tech and
Triluminos LED backlighting, these sets will opt for Black Frame Insertion technology to up the Hz rate, and while it's still a local dimming LED set, white LEDs will come inside instead of the previous three color setup,
reducing cost, but also image quality. Of course, DLNA and AppliCast widget support will all be part of the package, so if you, like us, were looking for a
cheaper alternative to Sony's high end sets you'll also be keeping an eye out for these to debut around IFA 2009 in September.
LCD = LAME
With KURO's out of the way, this is probably going to become the norm. Why even try to improve the picture with Pioneer closing up shop?
Oh yes. Lets reduce PQ. I can't wait to stand in line to get a display with poorer PQ then the competition. The HD Guru just proclaimed the new Panasonic V series to be the new king of PQ. Yep, lets build a new LCD display with poorer PQ. Todd, you need to read the review on the V series plasma from Panasonic. Pioneer technology is in good hands.
not to mention laservue that will start to come down im sure this upcoming spring. plus even later oled. if companies had that kind of mentality ("oh they stop making the best, lets cut quality") we wouldn't even have hd.
I believe Sony over-extended on their TRI-Luminous LED system. Sure, it's the pinnacle of LCD technology, but too darn expensive.
Am I to believe, to lower production costs to compete with Samsung , Sony are taking a step backwards in quality?
From Red, Green & Blue LEDs to just white, sure sounds like it to me.
"White" LEDs produce an inferior color gamut. "White" LEDs are really a blue LED with a yellow phosphor. Relative to red-green-blue LEDs, "white" LEDs produce a very unbalanced color spectrum with orangy-reds. Some cold cathode fluorescent backlights produce superior color gamuts, which makes this a real step backwards just for the sake of a marketing buzzword - "LED".
When is Mitsubishi gonna release a flat LASERVUE TV.
Lasers are the future not led..
