Craig Ferguson's The Late Late Show switches to high definition at the end of August

We ask, and we receive. A few months after Craig Ferguson topped our poll asking who is still watching standard definition television comes word that The Late Late Show is going high definition. CBS plans to flip the HDTV switch August 31, complete with an updated show opener and theme song. There's nothing better that we can think of than seeing that beautiful, beautiful face in HD...wait, we may need to reconsider this.

The show is so funny, but it is so hard to watch anything in standard def now a days.

Finally! I like Craig's show quite a lot, but I've actually avoided it for a while now because the SD quality just looks SO bad. Now all we need are The Daily Show and The Colbert Report!

I completely agree about the Daily Show. I hadn't watched it in years because the SD channel on FiOS was really beyond horrible, but I've started watching it again now that FiOS finally got Comedy Central HD. It very much sucks that the show is still SD, but I have to say the audio and picture quality is so much better now.

The Daily Show and the Colbert Report are currently in upconverted HD on Comedy Central HD fortunately there are plans to redo both shows' studios and upgrade them to real HD

I've heard that the problem for The Daily Show is that - for all of the clips that they use (various new networks, C-SPAN, etc.) - they just use a huge bank of Tivo boxes and other recorders that are all still SD! So for them, upgrading to HD isn't as simple as just buying 4 HD Cameras. They have to upgrade their entire production and for a half our late night cable show, I guess that cost has been a bit prohibitive.

Yes, great--but when I tried to set Craig to record on my DVR for Aug 31(sep 1), it wouldn't take. So then---is Craig back on Monday Aug 31st in HD or not/
