Redbox debuts $2 video game rentals, pretty lean on titles thus far

If you've been waiting expectantly for Redbox to launch its much dreamed-of video game rentals kiosks -- well, dream no more. Word has come down from on high that it's happened, and we'll tell you: we couldn't be more pleased. For $2 a night (which isn't really a great premium compared to Blockbuster's $9 for five nights), you can hit up the kiosk and grab games for Nintendo DS, Wii, PS2 and 3, and Xbox 360. Now -- the game selections are really slim so far, but we're pretty sure that situation will improve quickly, and the launch has only been rolled on in the Reno, Nevada area as of now. We'll keep our fingers crossed for Redbox to make its way eastward soon.

awesome! cant wait for florida redbox
I was surprised how popular this thing was. I was at a local grocery store around 7:30pm on Saturday and there was a line about 5 people deep getting movies from the Redbox. Good for them, although I'll stick with Netflix, especially since they are now doing Saturday shipments (which works as long as the USPS keeps doing Saturday deliveries).
While I am excited that Redbox now offers video game rentals I think I will stick with Hollywood Video who offers 5 days for $7 plus add in a rent one get one free coupon from Cellfire and you have a steal of a deal on video game rentals. If that ever goes away or they don't have the game I want to rent then I will look at Redbox as a second alternative.
I think this is a pretty sweet alternative to Blockbuster. I've been in several situations where I've wanted to rent a game for only one night because friends were coming over. Instead of being stuck with a game for 5 days in which I have no interest in playing by myself, I can just stop by red box. From the party type of games I'm seeing from the pic above, I think redbox is thinking the same. Hopefully this will be a major success.
i live in Wilmington NC and we have it. i rented ufc last night, was a good system overall
I have seen a kiosk simalar here in Las Vegas, NV at my local Smith's store. It was called Gamebox and was sitting next to the Redbox kiosk. I jumped for joy when I first saw it as Redbox game rentals would be awesome, but as I got a closer look at it I found out the games are for purchace only. Maybe Redbox is testing both sales and rentals to see which is the better market? I dunno, but I would personally like to rent.
