PlayOn for Wii beta to be announced tomorrow
We know that some of you streaming media fanatics have been indulging in this one for the better part of a month already, but just in case: tomorrow the kids at MediaMall officially announce the beta release of PlayOn for Wii. The software license runs $39.99, but there is a 14-day free trial -- so you can see for yourself whether or not it makes sense to tie up your console with re-runs of CSI: Miami when you could be better off shakin' your groove thing to Dance Dance Revolution: Hottest Party. Hit the read link and decide for yourself.

I have used it a few times for testing (PS3 and Wii on same TV) and it works surprisingly well for wireless. Video quality not withstanding I had only a couple of times where I experienced any stuttering.
We've just announced special pricing until the end of August to celebrate this release. Between now and August 31st. If you enter coupon code AUG10OFF on our purchase page http://tiny.cc/ndBA8 you can purchase the software for $29.99. Of course you can still try it for free here, http://tiny.cc/hqoZn but you need to decide to buy by the 31st to get the special pricing. Enjoy.
Aw no! I just bought PlayOn at full price on Friday night to start using it with my Wii! I wish I would have waited now!
Is a Mac version in the works?
Given the thumbnail on the screen, does this mean that the only movie that can be watched is Tommy Wiseau's "The Room"?
I love this program. I use it daily. Also look at some of the cool plug ins. It plays everything on my computer on my 44 inch tv and looks great. Well worth the $30.00 with the cupon the guy up above talked about.
I had some issues with the install on my vista because my windows media player was messed up but I got it worked out. Im on Windows 7 now and it runs great too.
Not to nitpick, but doesn't this require the Wii Internet Channel? One would think (hope?) the requirement of another $5 piece of software would have been mentioned somewhere in either the engadget article or on PlayOn's Minimum Requirements.
It is (and was) mentioned on the PlayOn website when I downloaded it last night.
This is EngadgetHD, right? What is a Wii article doing here. Did it suddenly gain the ability to output an HD signal?
The Wii can (and always could) do 720p (as long as you buy the component video cable)...
@hyjacked
Please provide a link that proves this. I can't find anything other than an April 1st (April fools) story that states the Wii can output in 720p.
and I presume this implies that the crappy browser and crappy onboard memory will suddenly not have memory leak problems like it does simply browsing the internet....
I ran a Playon test on my Wii with a Netflix movie to my Samsung LCD 46" LCD. The movie via Playon was extremely blurry.
