74 percent of PS3 owners have watched a Blu-ray, but how many have watched two?
Sony may be working to expand the perception of the PS3 as a media powerhouse with half-hearted bundles and new advertising campaigns, but according to SCEA Director of PlayStation Network Operations Eric Lempel, it's already doing quite well in that department. He indicates that 74 percent of all PS3 users have "spent some time" watching Blu-ray movies, with barely a quarter left shunning the machine's high-def creds. Of course, the real question for Sony's sake is how many have gone ahead and purchased some of those fancy discs, a stat that Lempel doesn't share, but regardless we have to think it's time for Sony to stop putting tedious advertisements for Blu-ray players at the beginning of its Blu-ray discs -- we've already got one, you see? It's very nice!

"...the real question for Sony's sake is how many have gone ahead and purchased some of those fancy discs..."
Not really. When I rent Blu-rays for my PS3 from Netflix, Sony still benefits.
"it's time for Sony to stop putting tedious advertisements for Blu-ray players at the beginning of its Blu-ray discs..."
Agreed!
It's time for everybody to stop putting things you can't skip at the beginning of discs, dvds and blurays
loved my ps3 when it worked.first years blue ray lens failed ( on warranty)and yesterday 3 bip and red lite flashes and nothing .called sony and said my console overheated. but i respected the cooling distance. 400$ for 2 years of use . hard for my pocket. i don t recommend.
You realize that, in the world of electronics, there's going to be a lemon every once in a while, right? You can't honestly think "I can't recommend the PS3", believing that the millions of them that are out there now are afflicted by this problem, can you?
I don't even own a PS3 - I just think that statement is ridiculous enough to warrant a reply.
Hey I hear there's this great new console called the "Xbox 360."
You should give that a try, I hear their Quality Control is great!
Not trying to dis your statements, but the PS3 has a very low failure rate. Sucks you got a lemon, but very few are, and it's a great machine (I have a launch console, in use *hours* every day). Compare to my THREE dead 360s, the last of which now only plays the game "Brick" on my floor.

I would love to buy your ps3 from you. I have had the original since the day it came out.my kids run it 18 hours a day. last year the hard drive finally gave out and i had a 50gb laptop drive put in place of the 20 gig. needless to say it excceds our expectations. never knew anybody who had a 360 last 1/3 the time and does not use standard parts!
Good Luck, the new 120 gig was just lowered to 299.
when i was in national service a few months before, i once forgot to turn off my ps3 console before i left the house, which meant that my ps3 was turned on from sunday to friday 24 hours a day.
i came back and hey, continued playing my game with no problems.
lol
Anybody knows how to make bitstream work? I changed the setting from PCM to bitstream but the receiver still picks up PCM and not raw bitstream. Do I have to restart PS3 for settings to take effect?
I am wondering the same thing - how to get bitstreaming to work on PS3 Slim.
I tried to watch two, but the laser light kept burning my retina.
I only watch Blu-ray on my PS3. I own 10 or so and rent from Netflix. I've only played 2 games (one borrowed, one rented) and some free demos. My Xbox 360 gets all my game time.
Real cheeky title.
I don't own a PS3 just a blu-ray player and I have 90 blu-ray movies, why? Because I am CRRRAAAAZZZYYY!
My position on owning discs hasn't changed. I refuse to purchase discs anymore, after amassing a large quantity of DVDs. Not only did I hardly watch most of them more than once or twice, I got tired of buying the same movie over again when editions came out with extra content. I'm perfectly fine with paying a flat fee and renting or streaming content.
