Fox breaks the first rule, talks about Fight Club on Blu-ray

Just in time for Thanksgiving turkey, Fox will be releasing the Blu-ray version of Fight Club on November 17th. With a bit of luck, there will be something here for everyone: a high quality, 1080p, 2.40:1 transfer for videophiles, new layers of Dust Brothers sonic mayhem in the DTS-HD MA 5.1 soundtrack for audiophiles, and the requisite extras for those who are fans of the movie itself. Making the jump to Blu-ray are the same features from the special edition of the DVD as well as some Blu-sclusives like 'Insomniac Mode' and 'A Hit in the Ear,' which will let you remix the audio in four scenes (with help from a pro so you don't break anything). The airplane crash scene in this movie is a DVD demo favorite, so let's hope this $35 release gets treated right.

ya, what's the deal with lagging behind and not putting out 7.1 soundtracks? with Audyssey and Dolby pushing for even more speakers (not that I'm convinced it's worth it), i would think that a 7.1 soundtrack could be easily implemented into a blu-ray. c'mon, max out those discs!!

I'm guessing the difference between 5.1 and 7.1 is not worth the extra investment of the content producers or the consumer.

Keep in mind that the 7.1 stuff from Audyssey and Dolby work from the 5.1 soundtrack and don't require discrete channels. Using DSX/DPLIIz processing with a 5.1-ch mix might produce better (more immersive) results than discrete rear surrounds in a 7.1-ch mix.

Features are in place. The "with luck" is hope for a good quality production. As we've seen with the Gladiator release, top quality doesn't always get top priority.
