Video: Sony confirms it's 'bringing home 3D' starting in 2010
As it turns out, yesterday's report was spot-on. Sony today announced that it is bringing the experience of looking absolutely ridiculous in 3D glasses home to the living room. The initiative is "starting in 2010" and will expand through BRAVIA LCD HDTVs, VAIO machines, PlayStation 3, and Blu-ray discs... and not in the press release, but we clearly see a CyberShot digital camera in the promotional video (look out, Fujifilm). It's hard to say from the wording if all the listed product lines will go 3D next year, but from what we gather there'll at least be BRAVIA sets in time for that Christmas. Curious see the zaniest video this side of the second dimension? Well, we don't have that, but you can giggle your way through Sony's promo after the break.

I'm riding on a dolphin, doing flips and shit.
It's just a gimmick, a very terrible terrible gimmick.

hehehe, cute.
I'm on a boat motherf***er, don't you ever forget!!
I'm on a boat and... Its going fast and...
...I got a nautical themed Pashmina afghan
I'm the king of the world, on a boat like Leo
believe me when i say, i f***ed a mermaid.
If you're on the shore than you sure ain't meo...
Yeah I'm late, but atleast I wasn't out of order ;)
GET THE FU*K UP, THIS BOAT IS REAL!!!!
Finally! The last reason to go to the cinema is now negated!
I've been saying that for a long time and every time home theatre catches up, cinemas come out with something new. I personally think this will never catch on. HDTV still is hardly the majority around the world and people freaked out abotu analog cut-offs and they expect people to now go for 3D-enabled televisions? I think it will be cool for a while but nothing else.
Virtual strippers here we come.
that was in minority report right?
and porn!!! imagine porn in 3D zomg!!!!!
Engadget's sister site Switched even had an article from a company offering 3D porn

*grabs the oil and towel* Yep, I'm ready.
I know right?! I mean look at the pictures, the dolphins are really coming out of the...wait, what's that on the lower right corner...let me squint at it..." Product images are concept only"? What the hell!! You mean, there isn't any holographic images coming out at you?
On another note, love the enthusiasm at 00:10, "its uhmazing!!"

Yeah... are you sure you want porn in 3d?? Get ready to squirm when you see the man-fluids fly at you in glorious 3D.
Pretty cool, but will it cost more..yeah. And when you see 3d in a small tv lets say 26 inch is not that awesome. I rather watch 3d in the movies not my living room.
Btw that commercial seems soo cheesy.
First!! ithink..dont ruin my moment
Good lord... will I have to sit that close to the TV to watch 3D?
Meanwhile, that video was a big old Engrish mess.
It's Echo!!!!
Bow, chicka, bow-wow!
Sony, I hope you give an option to disable 3D.
WTF is with my avatar changing randomly all the time...
It's a bug. Every time you upload a new avatar, it just randomly selects one or none at all.
Engadget should really fix that.
The whole comment system is a bug. Engadget should really fix it.
You think you will be able to afford a Sony 3d tv? expect "True3D" premium tax.
Rumor has it that Sony will actually go 4D in 2011 and you can time travel, but you still have to wear the glasses.
What about pants?
What about them?
Everyone knows there are no pants in the future.
What if we invent the finglonger?
Great, now you can wear dorky glasses and get migraines at home, just like the theatrical 3-D movies.
YES, you can. Isn't it great to have options?
Yes, you'll have to wear dorky glasses, but field/frame-sequential 3D is sooo much better than what they have in theaters.
Theaters use non-powered polarizing lenses.
And you might not get too many migraines if the refresh rate is high enough on these.
We'll see what Sony does with them.
I hope the execs sit through the extended Lord of the Rings in 3D to test the TVs out before pumping them to the public.
I'm just curious as to how they are going to power the glasses.
They better be wireless or we'll have TVs (or people) crashing to the floor.
They already said it's going to be polarized glasses. It's much more practical anyway.
Read the article, it says clearly that "frame sequential display and active-shutter glass systems" are being used, i.e. 120Hz TVs and LCD shutter glasses, NOT polarised light.
Means more expensive glasses, but the 3D pictures are higher quality.
Is this Sony's answer to plasma black levels? Sunglasses?
That family does look super awesome though and they look like they're having a great time. Super early adopters are already wearing their sunglasses while they watch TV.
Sony's answer to plasma was plasma, but they didn't sell well, so they dropped them years ago.
Ray Charles here I come
I doubt he would have been very impressed with 3d.
I miss playing my 3D games on the Sega Master System.
I should go dig those games out of the basement.
Space Harrier 3D was cool.
I LOVE technology as much as anyone else on this site (hence my visit here), but I only have one question: umm...why?
How can they watch the Dolphin when THEY ARE ALL BLIND!
Good catch. The girl in red is reaching for the dolphin, but clearly doesn't know where it is. The other girl thinks the dolphin is on the first girl's shoulder. And the guy thinks he's watching the Miami Dolphins - no, wait, he appears happy.
@NHAnimator
That last joke was sooooo 2007..
3d games? 3D GAMES!!!!!!!
