But this is a site for nerds basically, you would expect the number that multitasks their electronics use to be quite high. So we have ~60% that does it all the time and another ~25% that does it sometimes. Wowsas
Maybe it is more of a reflection of the generally abysmal state of what is on television?
I'm a nerd, and I never surf the internet while watching TV.
I just don't see the point of it. The purpose of TV is to distract you from whatever you're doing.
If there's nothing good on TV (which is always the case these days), either bring your own content or don't watch TV at all. Simple as that.
Love it how Nielsen makes so much money to state the obvious sometimes....How many of you guys check Engadget all the time for the "lattest" news????? CHECK.
My computer IS my TV.
... so how does that work? Are you still surfing while your still watching? Does watching on the pc make it any different? It takes effort to surf.
If your watching on the pc (or pc->tv) while surfing on the pc then bingo.
iPhone = on Internet, all the Time...
That is SO not true! The iPhone will not multitask. Therefore, when you actually use your phone as a phone, you are disconnected from the internet.

Well I surf at least if I am in my bedroom at my desk with the computer, but I am watching SDTV. I still haven't bought a HDTV yet. I have found shopping for TVs is like dealing with used car dealers.
Oh thank God, I thought I'm having some sort of mental disorder...Thank God I'm not alone!
Pretty much the only time I am NOT multitasking -surfing while watching hdtv- is when I watch a bluray movie or a series like Heroes or something. There's just not much else that can hold my full attention.
That chair has no armrests. No, thanks. (Probably costs $5k too.)
I surf while w'atching sports, talk shows, etc. When I watch scripted shows I don't (or pause the show to look something up.)
I almost never watch tv without surfing via the computer or iphone.
i surf while doing lots of things. i sometimes surf while i surf
Never surf while watching tv because I only watch stuff I recorded so I can FF / skip slow bits. And we don't have that rugby for girls you kids call football over here...
....ooh dude ... lets grab a leather sack and run into each other for 30 seconds and call it a sport... yeah dude but only if we dress up in some armor plated crap because I hate to ruin my nails......Pretty sure when it becomes legal, half the team will marry each other...
I do sometimes. I DVR 80% of the stuff I watch. That way I don't wast time on commercials. The only time I really surf is during a baseball game. There is just SOOO much time betwen pitches I want to scream.Reading something online helps.
Most of the times its more like I'm watching TV while surfing....lol....I mean unless something GOOD is on like "Heroes", "House", "Fringe", "24", etc in which case I tend to give the TV my attention until a commercial...
I don't believe in laptop computers, so no I do not surf wihile watching tv
My wife and sister-in-law regularly hijack the TV and I will gladly surf while I mock what they are watching!
Who am I kidding...I usually end up enjoying their shows. Help me.
Also, looking forward to a tablet (Apple or otherwise) to iron out the kinks of web-surfing whilst wandering the house.
Of course people are going to surf while they watch TV. It's summer! There's little reason to watch TV, so when you do it's likely reruns.
If the television program is not compelling enough to warrant your undivided attention, I say it isn't worth watching.
Yep, I have a dual monitor setup so I have HD running in a window in Media Center 7 while I surf the web on another screen.
