When we were walking around
CEDIA this past week we noticed a thing or two that we would've missed if we just focused on reader press releases. One of those things was the emphasis DirecTV put on multi-room viewing. This is good news to us, because we think that MRV is one of the next big things in the world of HD and DVRs. Most consumers just want to be able to watch whatever they want, wherever they want, so having the exact same experience on every TV in the house is key. Specifically DirecTV was showing its vision of the future including how the next generation of DirecTV HD DVR would work. What's interesting is that although DirecTV does allow customers to download beta software for the current HD DVR that enables MRV features, that isn't what these pictures are of. The current technology also isn't using the new
RVU Alliance's technology, of which DirecTV promised to deploy next year. Overall we'll be keeping a close eye on the progress, but we were disappointed to hear the booth representatives describe the system without mentioning the full experience on the thin clients.
Miracles do happen! Ben actually got his facts straight for once.
Looks like DirecTV was showing a new model of their HD DVR as well... interesting!
Actually they were just props, nothing more than empty boxes for display.
I work at Best Buy in the Home Theater area, and we actually got a New normal DVR + that looked just like this, but it was just the DVR, so Directv must be updating there boxes! Now the box at best buy look exactly identical to the normal directv dvr+ box, just the satellite receiver box design was different like the one pictures above.
Anyone have any information on these brand new boxes? New model? new hardware inside?
UPDATE: Look what i just discovered on there website, this is the one we have at best buy now to. https://www.directv.com/DTVAPP/content/equipment/dvr_receiver
Was there any word if the new DirecTivo will have "true" multi-room viewing? Tivo's current multi-room solution is a joke.
Is that the OLED rumored iPhone?
No! It must be the iTablet!!!! Confirmation that it's real!!!!!!
I never expected it be 6 feet tall though.
I'm trying to see the point of this blog post. I see nothing new.
2007 called and said they wanted their booth back.
the 90's called they said they want their joke back
No unit shown because the new DirecTiVo boxes are not ready... We will have to wait until next year. Maybe?!? That is their new box...
Ha. "This is good news to us, because we think that MRV is one of the next big things in the world of HD and DVRs." My ReplayTVs have been doing this 2001!
Already exists with Media center, just make it work there.
I've been waiting for MRV from DTV! I had heard that they were planning to launch in Oct, anyone hear differently?
BTW, anyone know who makes the HD DVR box?
