Engadget HD Podcast 156 - 09.22.2009
It's been a really slow week in news, but we got together with the Ustream crowd to talk about some HD. Whether it's over an open data pipe, walled garden marketplace, networked Blu-ray player, or an all-consuming media tank, having choices for getting entertainment into your eyeballs and eardrums is a good thing. With that in mind, we talk about the FCC's first steps towards 'net neutrality, Zune Marketplace content playback on MCE, VUDU on LG's BD390, and Popcorn Hour's C-200. Choice is something you'll have less of if you're sticking with Blockbuster as it closes down stores, however. After a brief dalliance in a fantasy world of designer 3D glasses, we come back to reality with a good, long review of this season's new TV shows -- there's enough good stuff in there that even antenna-heads should be able to keep their DVRs nicely stocked with HD this year. We apologize ahead of time if you notice any audio glitches in this week's 'cast, there were a few technical issues but we should have them ironed out be next week.Get the podcast

I agree with Richard, Day Break was awesome. I had to "find" the rest of the episodes somewhere. Eventually they put them all on Hulu (or one of those sites)
Just checked they are still on Hulu
Hey, I just discovered something very useful for this podcast! You guys have great content, but very often the show runs very slowly with a lot of long pauses, whether due to the three of you not wanting to talk over each other, or because of the slight lag on long distance calls. This makes the show a bit plodding sometimes.
The solution? The new double speed play option on my iPod Touch! I just put you guys at 2X and things are a lot better, and I get the content in half the time! Steve talks slowly enough that 2X sounds normal, whereas Richard is the only one that gets a bit garbled at times since he speaks more quickly.
On the content of the show, I can say that I am loving my BD390 more and more. I occasionally have problems maintaining my network connection, but that could be on my router. Overall, a great experience and definitely the money.
Hi,
Regarding the comment made about the actor in Gladiator, Phoenix. He has a cleft lip which is a birth defect. He may already have had surgery to correct it or it was a minor defect and he never chose to have it corrected. Either way surgery on it may not improve it.
He's a insane rapper now so it likely the last thing on his mind right now.
Hey guys,
Just listened to the podcast and had to laugh. Those PCH C-200 photos from my GeekTonic blog were taken by my daughter with her mom's iPhone! I was desperate to get a post up and the box arrived while I was on a week-long business trip. So yeah, those were probably my worst ever product photos ever... The review will make up for it though ;)
I enjoyed the run down of the Fall TV line up but I started to wonder,,,if someone (not saying who) watchs the Amazing Race, which is only in SD, is he still allowed to listen to the podcast or would he have to switch to that Media Center podcast with the guy who doesnt own an HDTV?
The show is awesome, I would miss it.
I also enjoyed the rundown of the fall TV lineup. At first I was like, hey, Richard and I have a lot of shows in common. But by the end of it I realized Richard apparently just watches everything. How do you do it man?
