We kick things off with a trifecta of 3D news -- whether you've seen it or not, whether you think it's the next big thing or just a gimmick, it's coming; and not a moment too soon for former 3D naysayer Ben. He's full of surprises this week as he also was smitten by the VUDU HDX black magic on the LG BD 390 Blu-ray player. Maybe it's the integration with a top-notch Blu-ray deck, or maybe he's just easier to please during football season, but it's hard to fault the picture quality and -- thanks to Dolby Digital Plus bitstreaming -- the audio. For sure, HTPC video cards have a little ways to go before they can deliver the same ease of use at everyman prices. Why can't someone make a bluray player like the LG BD390 and add MCE extender capability to the player also. Oh, and add a hard drive.
I have a question for Ben: I bought a Panasonic P50G10 this week. This is my 3rd HD (50" bulb DLP, then a 56" LED DLP, which I still have) and the difference with a plasma is insane. I love it. Anyway, how paranoid do I need to be about burn-in? Do I need to fret when I have a Blu-ray paused to get a beer? I know the new generation it's less an issue, but I want to keep this thing pristine.

Just upgrade to a LED LCD and you will never have to worry for a second about burn-in.

Great show ? NOT.
The problem with 3D, from what some filmmakers were saying, is that it entirely changes how you shoot video. The long "following" shots can make people sick in 3D, and you end up doing a lot more static camera stuff. Think about this in sports. Those wonderful cameras on the wires that follow the action around would, it seems, never be workable in 3D. Too much movement. Our brains don't mind it in 2D, but combining a moving camera and 3D messes our equilibrium up.
If this is all true, then I might actually prefer 2D with all the cool camera movement than a static 3D.
