At this point, Panasonic's
50-inch 3D plasma is just another one joining the fray, but considering how highly hyped the technology behind this was, we couldn't pass up an opportunity to throw our eyes on it for a bit at
CEATEC. The 1080p panel was strikingly thin (or well mounted to give that impression), and the viewing angles were fantastic. The glasses that Panny provided, however, were relatively annoying (no surprise there). It should be noted that the actual spectacles sit pretty far off of your face, which simultaneously enables those with
actual glasses to partake in the 3D experience while frustrating those without by giving them a cute blue rim that refuses to leave the periphery. As for image quality, the G-Force demo looked downright stunning, with depth being easily perceived and fast moving action whisking about seamlessly. Still, we're having
a hard time believing a family of four would sit down and use these glasses for a two-hour presentation, but hey, we're not going to give up on the marketing squads just yet.
so is 3D really that uninteresting ? i think its a really cool tech i don't know why people are that interested. Isn't this what people have been wanting for years ? i know i want it
Agree completely. Make one of these TV's for under $3,000 and get these movies out on Blu-Ray for under $40 and I'll buy it. There have been several movies released in 3D at the theaters lately, those should be easy to get out to market.
This is very similar to the 3D in theatres but is completely jarring on a small screen and in your living room.
I mean it's fine at the theatres on a 150 foot screen and everything is mind-blowing.
It's significantly less entertaining at 50" in your living room. I like to lie to the side or use awkward positions sometimes and having glasses on my face, that also turn dark if you view from an angle is unnerving.
Not to mention that colors aren't as bright or sharp.
I think this is nothing more than a gimmick that people will hardly ever use. I'd much rather my picture looks crisp, clear, and sharp and free from artifacts or EE.
Are we really doing this 3D thing? I haven't followed it because 3D has always been cool but unwanted tech like VR. With this many manufactures coming on board I guess it is really happening. Looks like my remote control pile will be getting a pair of glasses on it in the future and I will have to know about 3D features as well as 1080p/i/24/60/contrast/viewingangle/judder/hdmi/etc before I buy my next television. Am I out of touch for not wanting 3D in my house at all?
3D- schmee dee. how were the blacks? have they become kuro-esque?
what i really want is my ps3 motion controller playing COD4 in 3D with a plastic shaped gun and a clip i actually have to reload while playing.....
One could only dream :-)
Would you please shut up about your 'hard time believing' BS. That family of four went to the theater at $8+ a head to watch the movie in 3D why not in your own home. Give it up already!
