I'm really up in the air as to whether I even want to buy this. I'm sure it will look great, but man... it was just so awful. I mean, robot balls... ????
OMG this movie had definite moments which sucked. They took the worst portions of the original movie (story, and any part involving humans) and not only came up with more stupid plot, but also dumbed down the humans and increased their presence. For some reason, they also felt it necessary to make some of the robots act like human caricatures. The only saving grace to Transformers 2, and I can't believe I'm saying this, was Megan Fox. The robots, which were the best part of the first film, for some reason feel less compelling.
Michael Bay isn't what I would consider a great director and has trouble when it comes getting great performances out of his actors. Any time he attempts scenes involving emotion, it usually falls flat. And his movies never seem to flow effortlessly, but rather feel as if they're moments patched together. I think he concentrates more on scenes than story. I seem to recall lulls in Transformers 2 that were pretty dull or just outright stupid. Where he does excel, is anything involving action. And he's among the best when it comes to compelling visuals.
For certain, this release will look and sound great in HD. I'm sure it'll sell well. But it's not a movie that I'd necessarily want to watch repeatedly.
Robot balls, humping transformers, and transformer heaven were the worst parts of this movie. This movie in no way stands up to the first one, however, it did succeed at being a summer action movie. For that I will give it credit.
The IMAX scenes were pretty awesome, but yeah the movie was terrible. The thing I'm curious about is, I heard Wal-mart was the only one going to carry version with IMAX scenes. Can anyone confirm this? Will every version of the Blu-ray come with IMAX scenes included?
There seems to be some confusion about that. Walmart is the only one with the IMAX scenes IN THE IMAX ASPECT RATIO. As in, where it opens up for certain scenes like the dark knight did on blu-ray. Other stores will still have the imax footage in there, just in the cropped theatrical aspect ratio.
Megan Fox is nasty... I mean she was hot once, but then she opened her mouth! She would be prettier if she kept her mouth shut, but she doesn't seem capable of doing that. Now she is just another piece of overpriced undereducated white trash. You want a true beauty then gaze upon Kate Beckinsale. Amazing looks, class, and down to earth.... And she has a British accent. The perfect woman!
I guess I'm the only one here that liked this movie... Sure it wasn't the best movie of all time, but I can't say I didn't enjoy it. Can't please everyone.
@FNG: I didn't hate it, I've definitely seen worse. I just don't think I want to own it. If I could edit the movie, it would be good. Take out the stupid dufus robots, the robot balls, and the mom/dad scenes around campus... then it's not that bad.
First one was good but this one fell well short of what I wanted. Like you said though, to each his own. :-)
I'm afraid I also liked this movie, but I have to agree with everyone, Robot Balls, Robot Heaven, Idiot robots acting like black thugs, and Robots being able to control gravity are just ridiculous, Its worth a download but not a buy, I like the parents though!
Oh come on you guys. Give it a break. This film has trumped every other film this year and by a wide margin. http://www.boxofficemojo.com/yearly/chart/?yr=2009&p=.htm If it sucked so bad why did this happen. Look.. You guys are taking things way to seriously. The film was made for kids and mostly "teenagers" in mind just like the Star Wars films were and it made a lot of money. What, do you think it was supposed to win an Emmy or Academy Award or something my lord. Lighten up :)
Erm, so high takings make it a good film!? Just because lots of people saw it the first time don't mean they liked it. They just got duped........again.
Star Wars ep. 1,2,3? Them good films too? Er no. not even close, but took stupid amounts of money.
Years ago people listened to film critics and the likes of Siskel & Ebert could kill a film on their say so. Now people dont listen, and hence we get this tripe and anything from the Wayans Bros.
God I cannot wait for those times to come back, though back then we still got Howard The Duck so go figure.
Agreed, big box office earnings does not a good movie make.
Transformers was a good film and many of us went to see Revenge of the Fallen because we expected it to be as good as the first. Instead, we got stupid gangster robots, too many headache-inducing camera shots and all the other aforementioned things. There were some great slow pans of Megan Fox, though she's not the reason most people went to see the movie.
And as far as Stars Wars Episode I, II and III...no, Episode I wasn't great, but many people really enjoyed II and III, so whether they're good films or not is debatable, but this is not the venue to discuss that right now.
It did well because it was tagging along on the coat tails of the original. It may have been targeted for a kids/teenage audience but that ain't us here for the most part. I'll rent it in SD but I'm not forking out $27 to own the blu-ray version just because it's pretty.
Am I the only one who thought this was a good movie? I don't think you can go into the movies and think your going to get an oscar worthy megan fox performance. I took it for what it was, a SciFi movie with great SFX. And I really enjoyed it.
The movie was terrible and I say that as someone who grew up addicted to transformers The plot was about three plots stuck together none of which made sense, and the transforming girl, oh dear that jumped the shark, I have the original movie in HD and it's quite good but the sequel should just be burnt.
I will say when I first saw this movie I was pissed. I saw it second time with somebody else and I knew at what points to turn my attention away from the movie. It was much better the second time whenI learned to block out robo-testes, illiterate robot twins, humping robots, and robots with bladder problems. The first movie had horrible human acting but they really disrespected the robots in this one. The fight scenes were awesome and the main plot of the story was good. It is a spectacle and a good movie to add to the HD collection in that aspect.
This movie had epic fight scenes but not so good editing. The story line was great if they would have taken another 2-3months to go over the movie and edit it correctly and not half assed, It would have been as good or better then Star Trek and the first Transformers movie. As a big fan of both I will purchase them both because I'm there thick or thin....
Now that we've thrown 'em off the trail, use the form below to get in touch with the people at Engadget. Please fill in all of the required fields because they're required.

Yeah, I didn't hear one good thing about this movie.

Megan Fox looks good even in a cg pre-vis breakdown.

I love watching movies that fully take advantage of my HD/blu-ray setup, but man, I just don't think I can do it this time. Aweful, aweful movie.
I guess I'm the only one here that liked this movie... Sure it wasn't the best movie of all time, but I can't say I didn't enjoy it. Can't please everyone.

HD-DVD only! Take that blu-ray losers. Oh wait.
Mr. Troll, what ever are we to do with you?
Judging if the forest fight scene is worth the price (since, IMO that was the best part of the movie...minus the credits rolling)
I'll wait for Star Trek to get my latest blu-ray fix.

Maybe Michael Bay will release a mega version of Pearl Harbor so we can have a matching set of drink coasters.
