ASUS has been
toying around with
wireless transmissions to displays for a hot minute now, and it sure looks as if the outfit is fixing to pick up where the Belkin
FlyWire left off by introducing the BR-HD3. Currently in testing, the wireless HDMI streamer is said to pass along 1080p content "with no lag," though there's currently no official range to speak of. The real kicker, however, is the price. The aforesaid FlyWire -- which
worked amazingly in the trade show demos that we saw -- was priced at $1,499, which is obviously far too much for most consumers. This box? £399 ($654), and it could be out as early as next month. Unfortunately, the device only supports a single HDMI input (so you can forget about connecting your Blu-ray player and Xbox 360 at the same time), but ASUS is planning to introduce a three-port version in June 2010 as well as a niche spinoff in Q1 that'll wirelessly stream one source to three HDTVs.

Of course, you could consolidate the Blu-Ray player and Xbox 360 and make it something better.
Its already been done... Its called the PS3.
I know, exactly.
$1499?!?!
HD streaming has the potential to be the future, but consumers won't bite, especially in this economy.

WIRES!
Should have kept that one to myself.
"so you can forget about connecting your Blu-ray player and Xbox 360 at the same time"
PS3 plays games too...
I'm not seeing the benefit of this product yet. maybe when we have wireless power it will make sense. Now you still have to connect a power plug. can you run a sigle HDMI cable as well? You can get either a HDMI switch or a receiver with multiple HDMI in. Since most walls don't have a power plug high where the tv will be mounted, can you just add a duct to run the run the cables inside the wall?
or am I just missing something big?
For some of these tv's it's worth it to just cut a hole in the wall no one's going to see it anyway once the screens on the wall.
This opens up a lot of possibilities. For one, it allows you to just have a TV on one wall and not have anything else there. Then, you can have the bluray player on the opposite side of the room right next to the couch or something.
"so you can forget about connecting your Blu-ray player and Xbox 360 at the same time"
Uhh no, the photo clearly shows that you can have a Blu-ray and Gaming system connected at the same time.
Yes, because no one that needed wireless HDMI would ever have an AV Receiver with HDMI switching, or just an HDMI switch, so that it only needs to transmit one HDMI stream.
Isn't it odd that buying 2 extra PS3 is cheaper than this thing....
"...a niche spinoff in Q1 that'll wirelessly stream one source to three HDTVs"
I think that "niche" would be every sports bar and a ton of other restaurants. How nice would it be to set up 3 TVs in a restaurant without having to do crazy complicated wiring all over the place?
pointless...
Why?
Running wires, especially in finished rooms, is not for everyone. This could save a lot of people time and simplify the setup.
Wireless hdmi will be sick dude.
Iv had hdmi since 2004.
Second time saying "hot minute" in the last two days. Cut it out.
As mentioned above, I'm pretty sure that someone dropping $700 to do this is going to have a receiver, heck my $400 Onkyo does HDMI switching, hook the output to this and done!
As others have said depending on what you are streaming would it not be easier to just get a duplicate device? (Blu-ray player, PS3, 360 etc) The only use I could find for this would be to send a computer video signal for movies etc but you could build a cheap and cheerful PC for cheaper than that. Oh and with the one HDMI device issue can you not just get an an auto switching HDMI switch?
NIce i can't wait to have my xbox on a end table so you don't have to get up to change games. Man I miss my modded original Xbox.
