Netflix hints at Watch Instantly integration on 'already-popular device'
Microsoft's Xbox 360 may call itself the only console to stream Netflix, but all that could be changing -- and soon. As Netflix continues to pull in new subscribers (and cash flow) like it's no big deal, the company is apparently looking to spread its wings even further by integrating its wildly popular Watch Instantly feature into "a device already owned by a large number of consumers." Naturally, the most fitting candidates for that would be Sony's PlayStation 3 or Nintendo's Wii, though the company has yet to come forward with anything concrete. Just so know you, Netflix credits the Xbox 360's streaming integration as the main reason some 2.4 million customers have signed up since late 2008, so it's more than apparent that it loves the game console. Any bets for when this will go down, or are you just plugging your ears in order to avoid potential disappointment?

Now if they would only add surround sound...
This is why I am still not a Netflix sub we are a proud discriminating few, I know almost the entire country is a Netflix sub but I do not feel it meets my requirements
Agreed! There must be surround sound.
Vudu does surround sound with the same bandwidth. Also most stereo movies I've streamed via Netflix have some kind of matrixed Prologic surround....not DTS or AC3, but certain not un-listenable.
Would love to see some Netflix integration on the iPhone. That would be awesome for some TV show watching on the go.
So the battery on your iPhone would last less the the length of streamed TV show? Slingbox app lasts 45min tops via wi-fi.
Maybe this will be available via my DIRECTV DVR?
seems everybody is thinking pc but Im with you.... I dont see the ps3 having the "install base" (esp in the states) that netflix would be alluding to. Directv seems like a more logical choice to me. But I don't know if it has the right kind of codec support (since netflix runs under silverlight)
I doubt it will be a directv dvr, directv has their own video on demand, why would they let netflix take that money from them?
Netflix would add thousands more titles to the DIRECTV On Demand library.
I'm still on the fence when it comes to a PS3, but adding Netflix would seal the deal.
If Netflix wants more subscribers because of Watch Now, they need to strike a better deal with the studios for better content. They'd be saving themselves postage/disc costs.
Why would you need a streaming disc?
Netflix has had a plan for sometime to be available on ALL devices. So it wouldn't surprise me if it did appear on the PS3. And these surveys about Netflix on a PS3 have also been appearing for awhile now. I got one a year ago.
What surprises me is the streaming disc. Why would you need such an option? Especially since every other PS3 title installs on the hard drive. And why is there a one time setup charge? Odd.
As far as Netflix on the iPhone, that would be great BUT AT&T needs to improve 3G. Their coverage and speeds leave something to be desired.
Pretty much this exact poll question appeared with PS3 replaced with Wii a while ago. I wouldn't put much stock in it. I'm sure it will happen eventually, but this isn't an additional indicator.
The Deal is done:
Sony and Netflix have officially partnered to offer Netflix on PS3.

Makes the PS3 a little more awesome imo :)
And right before the Xmas period. Nicely done Sony, nicely done.
