Analyst: More HDTV owners getting a steady diet of high definition for every day viewing
Last seen belatedly dubbing HDTV "game changing" for 2008, analytical firm Knowledge Networks is back with its latest breaking observation, finding owners are 65% more likely now than they were two years ago to say they are watching HD programming daily. Up from 26% in an '07 survey to 43%, we sadly noted that amount of people that always check for the high definition feed instead of SD rose only slightly from 61% to 68% among the 510 surveyed. Seeing fair and balanced numbers on the appeal of stretch-o-vision (we already know how you feel about it) would have been nice, but check the press release to see the stats networks and advertisers are probably checking before deciding to spring for HD specifically broken down across genre and gender.

Problem is the HDTV channel doesn't often gave you the real HD content, they just stretch out their SD movie and older show. They don't even bother convert old show just stretch it out. not to mention some of them still use lame stereo sound (history channel)
Still, if there's no actual HD option available, I prefer watching SD content on the HD channel (as long as it isn't stretched). It tends to look better than the SD channel's broadcast, at least on my local Time Warner Cable.
Meh. How quickly we forget. Was it not the beginning of this year that the mandated DTV conversion occurred? In other words, it's 2009 and we have FINALLY gotten people away from their antenna?
I'd be amazed if even that 68% number is accurate. Perhaps among the 510 people polled, but unfortunately, unless you're amongst the nerd elite like those of use who spend time on sites like these, that number is likely much, much smaller.
those of us*
And what is wrong with using your antenna for watching the locals in hi-def?
Are you familiar with the DTV transition that was all over this site for 6 months? I'm talking about non-DTV antennas. Bunny ears.
Is this a joke? There is no such thing as a DTV antenna they all work exactly the same. Seems like you've been hanging out at Best Buy too much.
LOL...so quick to be a jerk. Ain't the anonymity of the Internet grand? I simply mis-spoke, am happy to admit such, and stand corrected. Never used an antenna before, and made some poor assumptions.
My point, in spite of not using the right terminology, was that it took a mandate from the FCC to move people into the most basic of digital ages. To think that 68% are the next step along seems overzealous.
Does the study cover those who think they're watching a show on a high-def channel when in fact they're not?
That'd be six yesses for me. I didn't spend a couple thousand on a television, a few thousand on an audio system, a couple more thousand on acoustics and furniture, and a couple hundred a month on FiOS to nonchalantly not watch HD content.
In other news I also drive my sports car fast where and when it's safe to do so and cook on the backyard grill every chance I get.
