HDMI logos updated: version numbers out, supported features in
A response to cable sellers marking hardware v1.4 compliant before a test was even available or just another way for Monster Cable to ratchet up prices, we're not sure, but HDMI Licensing, LLC has reworked the packaging requirements for all new cables and products. Cable packaging must lose version numbers starting today, while HDMI-equipped components can only use version numbers in conjunction with listing specific features supported, and lose version numbers entirely starting January 1, 2012. The picture above features logos you'll find on certified hardware going forward, while we can appreciate being tied to supported features and not just version numbers that may or may not fully apply (*cough cough* remember the "HDMI 1.3" PS3Fat?) there's no way things get any less confusing when hooking up the new 4K or 3D capable HDTVs.

holy crap they have hdmi with ethernet built in why did they just think of that ARG!
For the life of me, I will never understand the thought process that goes through a marketer's mind when he/she decides to come up with a scheme like this.
To my eye, three of those logos should be stricken. Eliminate "Standard", "Standard w/ Ethernet" and "High Speed". Just don't certify those cables. Then all you have left are "HDMI High-Speed w/ Ethernet" and "HDMI Standard Automotive"... which could easily be renamed "HDMI" and "Mobile HDMI". Easy and straightforward.
@UnnDunn
Aww come on - that would be TOO easy!! You know confusion is the best way to trick people into buying something they don't need!
WTF? This is stupid. Whoever thought of these marketing labels should be fired and then shot, or vice versa.
@scyber what's your workplace like, the death star? Failure results in death?
Sheesh. So now every device that has an HDMI port will have to have thier documentation changed to specify which cable to use.
And as the technology continues to evolve, we'll see this list grow much larger.
Don't recall; reading about slow vs. fast HDMI...???
I think they stole someone from the Windows/Office marketing teams. That's the only thing that can explain this ridiculous version scheme.
What will they label HDMI 1.5?
Numbers work better than adjectives for versions.
Now all I need is a cheap solution to run an HDMI cable 40' from my computer to my TV so I don't have to keep moving it (and an optical cable that long).
@Dillon move your pc closer to your tv is a suggestion
Monster cable is going to have a field day with this!
omg I have no idea what this means...
So wait, HDMI automotive has nothing to do with cars and is just supposed to mean mobile?
@reallynotnick The term "Mobile" is commonly used to refer to car electronics. It makes things confusing when mobile is more associated with phones, but my guess is that HDMI automotive is for your car. Or it could be for home automation. To Wikipedia!

@Punchdrunkbrian yep, its for cars. It has increased shielding for heat, vibration, and noise necessary in a car. Seems a bit much to me, but so do monitors throughout a car. Seriously, does anybody really NEED 1080p in their car?
1 standard is all you need.
High Speed HDMI w/Ethernet
Gay Gay Gay
Oh and I guess this new naming convention is supposed to be all easy and everything right...?
sooo they are making it more complicated before they make it work properly. great.
get HDMI to work pleaseee . .
handshaking, incompatibility, and headaches.
Actually i would like to see the automotive design replace all of them.
the current design is crap... "an obvious example of Planned obsolescence".
