I'll believe it when I see it. I just refuse to believe that the idea of writing another version of the movie on the other side of a special disc does NOT give the movie studios an excuse to charge a premium for it. It would certainly be nice if this technology worked better this time around (even HD-DVD die hards hated the flippers)...

But I can't help to think they're a bit late here. The uptick in Blu-ray player sales, and the expected Christmas rush on BD (and HDTVs) means we're headed Blu-ray. Compatibility with older DVD players is nice -- us poor, pathetic Mac users -- but it's becoming less and less an issue as Blu-ray share grows.

Did Universal re-encode these to take better advantage of the 50GB disc? I hate when I read that studios recycled the encode from HD-DVD as I highly doubt studios are deleting these movies of their hard drives somewhere and that for a studio/pro-house, a blu-ray encode could be completed overnight or over a weekend at the most.
3. @EatingPie, I feel you Mac pain, that's why I finally caved and just got a dedicated player for my new TV and stopped worrying about my Cinema Display and HDCP.
