Avatar guaranteed to be on Blu-ray before June 1st 2010?
Anyone who prefers their home theater to the big screen knows that the days of long release windows are a thing of the past -- and until Hollywood figures out that delaying movies doesn't encourage us to go to the theater, release windows are here to stay -- but apparently the Media Wonk isn't that big of a fan of home media. Because if he was he wouldn't say that France's three strikes law is biting Fox where it hurts. Apparently the law requires Avatar to be released by June 1st 2010, which Paul argues isn't what Fox would do willing. Well we went back and search IMDB for every big blockbuster in the past 5 years, and aside from a few holiday movies -- doesn't make sense to release A Christmas Carol in July in any format -- we couldn't find any titles that weren't out on disc within six months of the theatrical release. But just to make sure, we asked Chris Tribly of Home Media Magazine what he thought and he quickly hit us back with "there's no way Fox will wait 12 months on Avatar. Too many piracy concerns. What you'll likely see is an April release with a special edition re-release for the holidays." We have to admit this is pretty much what we were thinking too and with the Oscars on March 7th this year, we wouldn't be one bit surprised to see it hit Blu-ray just in time to blanket the box with all the Oscars it's sure to win -- to go along with the Golden Globes it won for Best Picture and Best Director.

Yet another top notch article by Engadget HD "Well we we went back and search IMDB".
Great job proofreading and using correct grammar Engadget.

Yea?
Great movie to watch in IMAX 3D despite nearly 0 plot surprises. I will likely wait for the special edition BluRay.
I kinda wanted to hate it, and was not impressed with the 3D, but as a movie, it is Good.
It might have been better if there weren't so many similarities to other racist type movies where the ignorant inferior natives could only be saved by the human/white hero.
Again, even with that it was a good movie, just not great.

Pleeeease. You really pulled the race card on this movie? Go watch a Spike Lee movie and get over yourself.
No matter when it comes out this year it will likely be released again in 3D. Unless they can find a way to fit the 3D data onto the disc (maybe it's really simple) we'll see another release of this movie and likely every other 3D film already released or coming (Tron Legacy, Shrek 4, Toy Story 3, Alice in Wonderland, etc).
As for the film itself, I thought it was brilliant. I think the haters just love to hate on it but at $1.6 billion (and counting) in 30 days means the haters are an exclusive crowd indeed.

Personally, I won't be buying the first non-3d bluray. I'll wait patiently for the proper 3d release. I'm also waiting for affordable polarized projectors, so even then, I may not be able to watch the movie for a couple years. Which is why I've gone 3 times to the theater to see the 3d (and may go one more) because it may well be two years before I can watch it again.
I WILL NOT watch Avatar in 2d. Ever.
3d=OAR for movies like Avatar and Coraline
@LazarusDark
3D blu-rays will be compatible with 2D blu ray players, they will have both versions of the move on the disk, the question is will the first release contain the 3D version. I think the earliest announced 3D blu ray is The Christmas Carol.
