VIZIO Super Bowl ad pushes internet connected HDTVs in a big way
We weren't sure exactly what Beyonce, David Goes to the Dentist and Chocolate Rain all had in common, but VIZIO squeezed them all into its Super Bowl ad. Still striving to remake its reputation from being merely a cheap HDTV manufacturer to a premium one offering lots of features, the ad (embedded after the break) shows how it's bringing "the best of the internet" with VIZIO Internet Apps. We still need to see if its picture quality will measure up and whether the widget experience has gotten any better (read: faster) in 2010 to be truly convinced, but a slick ad never hurt.

Yikes. What kind of person downranks someone for a simple post with the proper spelling of a person's name?
@sitruc
engadget persons.

Hmm...seems to me Beyonce gets whiter and whiter every year:

If by whiter you mean hotter, then I totally agree
@LADodgersFan88
I was going to say the same thing. Her eyes were looking strange as well. Indeed, I think that was probably Sasha Fierce. http://vigilantcitizen.com/?p=604
@LADodgersFan88
She is grasping for the Queen of Pop title now that MJ is gone.

It's all "pink" where it counts
I'm curious as to what kind of hardware they are putting in the TV's to do this and whether it is end-user serviceable. I think TV's have a longer life cycle than computers. I'm concerned that after a year or two, the PC side of the tv will be borderline obsolete and useless for anything but local weather and movie times. And how much does this feature add to the cost of the tv? Wouldn't it be cheaper to get the model without internet widgets and just duct tape a Asrock Ion 330 (or similar) running xbmc onto the back of the tv?
uh, no, id say that commercial failed spectacularly because i saw it and had not even realized it was for Vizio until now.
"the best of the internet"
So, that means lots of high quality porn right?
Why were there five different Dramatic Prairie Dog commercials this year?
@CubeGuy
I was wondering the same thing... if Verizon called and wanted their Droid commercial back, then 2007 called and wants their overdone rodent meme back!
Good Lord Vizio! Just release the 72" monster already!!!!
Should be interesting if they can make intuitive software that feels natural on a TV, I like the whole idea of having applications on your TV.
how come no1 commented on the subject in red? yum yum yum yummmmmmy
Sorry J-Z I just couldn't help but noticed how fabolous the goods were.
I still prefer a nettop which gives me everything from internet to paying extra on a tv for limited access.
Does this mean network remote control as well, or is IR still required?
Do their TVs support DLNA?
I think that would be more important than widgets..
a
Vizio is on the RIGHT TRACK.

What they did was graphically show the full range of content offered by the web sites now accessible using the Internet Apps built into the new TVs.
I was blown away by the commercial. My father (77 y/o) had no clue what it meant. When I explained it, he said, "Oh." I then said these TVs are revolutionary and get us that much closer to a combined TV/computer.
Did any1 hear the David @ the Dentist Kid in there?
