VIZIO Super Bowl ad pushes internet connected HDTVs in a big way
We weren't sure exactly what Beyonce, David Goes to the Dentist and Chocolate Rain all had in common, but VIZIO squeezed them all into its Super Bowl ad. Still striving to remake its reputation from being merely a cheap HDTV manufacturer to a premium one offering lots of features, the ad (embedded after the break) shows how it's bringing "the best of the internet" with VIZIO Internet Apps. We still need to see if its picture quality will measure up and whether the widget experience has gotten any better (read: faster) in 2010 to be truly convinced, but a slick ad never hurt.

I think this was out of all the commercials the most graphical. Last year they used so much more CG.
It looked shopped.
I could tell from the pixels and from seeing quite a few shops in my time.
@Templarian
I never liked Beyonce. She bores me to death. Everyone else thinks she's hot but me.
@nicholiservia beyo eff'd up the commercial. i'd rather hit the numa numa guy -_-
@Templarian Beyonce is more attractive than Megan Fox...
@Banksta3, duh, but Jessica Alba is hotter than both combined.
@Old fogie late bloomer
OH MY GOSH. I can't stand people like you. Be more specific please, or stop pretending to be an expert at something your not
@BUNT2
did you hear that? it was the sound of a joke going over your head.
@BUNT2 LOL, that is a classic web line dude, he was joking.
@nicholiservia I know what you mean.
@Banksta3 check out those sweater cows
@SONYEDDIE I must admit; the numa numa guy is quite hot...
@Templarian I'll pushe her internet
@Banksta3 Are you kidding me? Beyonce looks downright ugly sometimes - Megan Fox is at least attractive :/ And Alba is certainly passed her prime... Plenty of girls hotter than any of them.
On topic; when'll we ever see this brand in the UK? Never seen a TV by them in the shops.
@Valicore
Acshually, I r think BUNT2 was making a double joke out of this one.
@Valicore

@BUNT2
Ha ha, I'm hoping that you were joking. If so, the use of the incorrect "your" was the cherry on top.
Pretty good commercial. Liked the whole "maiyahi" addition. Seems like someone from Vizio has some taste in music :P
@montusama I liked how Verizon p0wned AT&T with their 3G/marriage proposal commercial.
Damnit, Aints won.
I hate internet memes. :|
@Sonicslasher Yeah is this really "the best of the internet"? I think not.
Awesome commercial. It looked like a Droid commercial at first.
@Jeff
Yeah they copied those robotic hands
Should have hired Rick Ashley
@JeremyBenthem
Who the hell is Rick Ashley? Surely you mean Rick Astley?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZOU8GIRUd_g
I laughed when I saw the Numa Numa guy.
@Rick Goodman
God, wasn't that the funniest thing ever?
Half of the room busted out laughing, and the other half (old people) didn't get it.
Verizon called, they want their Droid marketing team back.
Good for vizio. Their TVs are great and affordable
We'll have to see how easily these "internet apps" are updated to keep up with the ever changing trends. I wouldn't put it past Vizio to not offer updates in lieu of forcing consumers to purchase newer TV sets to get newer functionality. On top of that risk, Vizio's Quality has never been great, and there is a reason they are cheap.
I must say though, it is good that they are bringing features to the masses that the more technologically adept have been customer to for quite some time now, while avoiding the necessity for a separate HTPC.
TVs and computers will soon stop being separate standalone items, but they will just become one device. It will be a computer that you can watch cable channels on, rather than a TV that can access the internet.
@dingledow I agree *if* and big if, there's an open home gateway standard (which the FCC is considering recommending as part of the national broadband plan): http://bit.ly/7M7Qd2
@dingledow
IPTV.
I like YouTube memes but the one they picked were the ones I didn't like. Especially David after the Dentist.
I watched it twice just to make sure.. but Netflix was left out! What does it mean?
lack of rick ashley is a pretty big thing to not have
This was my favorite commercial - internet memes FTW!
I like my non-wifi Vizio, but I have to wonder why anyone would buy one with wifi and widgets over just getting an HTPC.
Personally (and I'm baised of course) I don't want "the best of the Internet" (as determined by Vizio). I want the whole Internet and I'll decide for myself what's "the best."
WHO DAT!
You used Beyonce and widget is the same paragraph. I'm sure there is juvenile lewd joke there somewhere. I'm just having a hard time formulating it.
all those apps and no netflix...
@Nicnac
Via product description: comes pre-loaded with Amazon Video on Demand, Flickr, Netflix, Rhapsody, Twitter, VUDU and Yahoo TV Widgets, ready to launch onscreen at the touch
Cool!
needs more cowbell
I have to say, If I didn't know anything about HDTV's, this ad would definitely consider getting a Vizio.
This really made them look like a high end tv company. I wonder how much they paid Beyonce?
Her name is Beyoncé.
@derekdevine and its Rick Astley but nobody's correcting that. honestly do you expect people to struggle and put in an accent for her name.... on a blog?
@cswright No I don't. Don't get so easily agitated.
