Ben, I'd like to thank you A LOT for this podcast. Just listened to it today and finally understand a little about what RVU is about. Sounds like it will work well for replicating a user interface (video not included) in a bit accurate fashion over a network with lots of bandwidth to a relatively low end device. The only part I wasn't really happy with was their answers to your questions about whether RVU could handle animated transitions like those in WMC. Seriously, if it can't, it might as well not bother getting off the ground.
Obviously its hard to tell at this point how this will do in the marketplace. If WMC adopts it, great, but it sounds like Microsoft might have their own ideas? And if not WMC then what? DirecTV maybe, but what about Tivo? I want my Tivo's to offer RVU access to other Tivos in my house. And my TV (or Tivo or Apple TV) should have an RVU client that can replicate what is on a web browser running Hulu--can somebody develop an RVU server plugin for that maybe? Lots of possibilities... Will any of them happen?
Now that we've thrown 'em off the trail, use the form below to get in touch with the people at Engadget. Please fill in all of the required fields because they're required.
