Dish puts its HD channel list up for evaluation
After being called out by competitor DirecTV on its supposed counting shenanigans, Dish's only option was to put its list of channels on the web for easy comparison. We've also dropped the list in after the break for you to look, count and be impressed (or not.) We're not sure if anyone is really that moved by pure numbers at this point, whether or not a provider has the one channel you want instead of five you don't seems to be the key these days. Is having the most linear HD available what you're looking for, or is something else keeping you paying the service charge each month? 1. 5StarMAX HD

206 - 74 DISH Cinema HD channels - 20 or so part time on RSN channels = 112. Try again Dish with real full time on HD channels. FiOS has 162 full time on HD channels with no PPV added.
@buck11772 right on, cause the only thing that matters is pure volume! f'em until they have like 500HD channels!
The race to have the MOST HD CHANNELS is kind of like a mixed up race to the bottom.... Now you will be glad to see you can watch the World Fishing Network HD and even Palladia HD. Wake me up when i can get my GEMS AND JEWELRY channel or my home shopping network in HD.
I do believe DirecTV just got told. Your move, DirecTV.
Personally, I don't have either service nor do I intend to get them any time soon. But this corporate slapfight is fun to watch.
The fact is that except for full-time RSNs (sports) Dish has every channel in HD that the majority of people look at when looking to switch providers...unfortunately, Dish isn't very good at advertising and positioning themselves and try to beat DirecTV on the numbers game rather than simply pointing out that your average Dish user now doesnt have very many (if any) SD channels in their Favorites guide - DirecTV customers cant even make this comparison as they can't create their own custom Favorites menu and of course dont have all of these HD channels...and Comca$t won't be able to completely rollout these HD channels nationwide for years to come so no comparison there....(hey, Comcast On Demand fans, if you actually had these HD channels you could just set a Season Pass for those shows you like rather than wishing/hoping Comcast's OnDemand system gets your shows and keeps them there as long as you need them).....
@shetaan819
Are you kidding me? Directv doesn't have a favorites option? I didnt even realize.
After finally ditching Comcast for life last year, I got Dish. They have better equipment in my opinion (getting a Sling-loaded dvr next month), and the HD channel listing at the time was the main factor in choosing Dish. There's maybe only two channels now that I ever watch that aren't in HD yet (G4 and Current).
@shetaan819
Uh, I've been using favorites lists with DirecTV for years now. And unlike Dish I don't have to filter out the SD duplicates. It gives me the option to do it automatically. As far as the channels go, there are only a couple missing that I would actually watch and they are being added next month. So, this is all a mute point.
I have Dish Network and I have seen some added channels (G4 HD, CI HD to name a few), but I would like to see 1080p on these channels, I have a HDTV that supports this resolution, and I would like to use it, dammit! If they can do this w/On Demand, then why not regular channels, and don't tell me that they don't have the bandwidth, cause w/the money that we customers are paying to DN, there's no reason why they can't.
@blueboy09
Its up to the content providers to provide 1080p and unfortunately for all of us, they simply arent providing it, its not a Dish Network decision...
@blueboy09 not a dish issue. it's the HD roll out that is a JOKE!
It's the same issue on Cable and Sat.
There is Zero 1080p
Dish Network > DirecTV.
I thought we settled this.
Dish Network is years ahead of Directv
The only thing Dish is doing wrong is not providing sports networks. Everything else is great but I want my MLB channel.
Dish doesn't have the money needed to offer its customers MLB network, as its a very expensive channel to add.
As far as who has the 'most' HD channels, it does become a 'who cares?' at some point, but you'd think that general integrity would prevent a carrier from calling on-demand, PPV, or part time channels as 'high def', but it appears that Dish doesn't get it.
And Dish network is > DirecTV? How so? Its not in features (whole home DVR, DVR on PC, remote DVR app for iPhone), its not in HD channels (as we've just covered) and it sure as hell isn't picture quality of DVR features.
Next?
How do you tell which ones are part-time? Or are RSNs counted as part-time by default even because only parts of their content are SD. Or does Dish do what Comcast did with FS Detroit and only run the channel during live sporting events?
I have DishNetwork. No problems here.
I'll sign up for the first satellite provider which implements Windows Media Center compatibility. Both companies were thinking about it (and made test hardware) but none went to market.
No WMC, no sale. Simple as that.
