DirecTV Q1 results are great for profits, multi-room viewing and RVU -- but not DirecTiVo
It's not difficult to guess what's on the soundtrack around DirecTV's headquarters, with revenue and earnings results that beat analysts estimates for the first quarter. That's thanks to higher prices and increased HD and DVR revenue (DirecTiVo? Yeah right, according to the conference call, it could be pushed back until "maybe the end of this year, or maybe early next year,") while it also experienced a net increase of 100,000 subscribers over the period. Of course launching DirecTV 3D is a major focus for the rest of the year, as well as increased VOD with DirecTV Cinema, multi-room viewing (officially rolling out next week) and "connected home" initiatives. All the dirty details are in the reports and transcripts linked below, dive in as deeply as you dare.

Common dude, why use that ghetto pic? Rappers flaunting money and jewelry.
@kevon27
Because the CEOs at DirecTV are probably doing the same thing.
I like DirecTV but I am getting tired of the Tivo promises. I want a way to watch shows on my iPod. I need to see if my old Philips DSR6000R will be able to do it, or sign up for cable.
@ericdj get a Slingbox.
@ericdj i've had the directv dvr as well as tivo dvr on dtv - the same philips dsr6000r.
if i wanted hi def on directv it was their dvr or nothing....and though i have it a shot - it's pure crap, from the implementation of the software to the remote.
so, i dug around and did research on tivo and cablecard, and switched to comcast. i never, ever would have thought i'd be a cable customer, but the experience has been a good one.
is it perfect? no.
is it better than the dtv hd dvr? oh yeah.
you can move content from your tivo to your pc or mac and watch it on portable devices. premium stuff doesn't move but most other stuff does.
if there's a minus to being a tivo customer on comcast, it's that comcast ondemand - which is pretty sweet - doesn't work through the tivo hd xl... it may with the newer models - but i don't think so... i need to see.
@ericdj
Look into building yourself a Hauppauge 1212 based solution. Whatever you record should definitely be accessable to whatever other tools or device you want to put the recordings on.
My wife has slaved me to DirecTV so she can watch her favorite NFL team each week (out of market due to my job).
I am basically being forced to move from my Media Center setup (2 XBOX extenders, 2 DMA2100) to the new DVR and tuners so that we stop missing shows, bad channel mappings, and whatever they can throw.
They have the market locked up and will be getting my big bucks. They are totally rolling in the dough and pimping us out. Good picture.
@Rilesman make her watch online?
if thats not avaliable, I suggest to you that the money you spend to watch "1" NFL team play for a few games is not worth the money.
Make her go to a local sports bar!!!
