Poll: Waiting for new HDTV technologies, or planning to buy more of the same?
It's been exactly one year since we asked what display tech you were looking forward to purchasing next, and it's time to see if opinion have changed. 12 months later are you still optimistic OLED displays will ever be on sale in large screen sizes? Impressed by the progress of LCDs? Wowed by the 3D and 2D performance of the latest plasmas? Of course, there's still a few RPTVs kicking around, projectors have their place and there's other display tech on the horizon, so let us know what you're looking forward to in 2010 and beyond.

My family's home has a total of 5 TVs
HDTV in basement
HDTV in home theater
HDTV in my bedroom
SDTV in other bedroom
SDTV in office
With a home theater TV, annex TV, and bedroom TV there is little need to buy any new HDTV in a very long time.

I'm surprised you didn't include model numbers.
I own a lcd tv I purchased during the 1080p boom. Its a IPS panel and has great picture quality, yet all lcd tvs suck when it comes to contrast and black levels. I really don't think I will even consider purchasing a new tv until some new tech arrives like oled or other. I would buy a Panisonic Plasma if they didn't have the degrading black levels.
@thedankone I have an LED (LCD) TV with local dimming which gives out pretty good blacks. Unlike TVs with florescent bulbs for the backlight, the LEDs can be turned off in darker areas.

I am well aware of local dimming, yet most of these sets have some of the worst viewing angles.
I just my buddies 720p Panasonic front protector and 100 inch screen on indefinite loan, since he upgrades to a new 1080p projector and new screen. Once I have everything set up in my home theater a new 1080p projector is my next display for sure. My old plasma display gets to move upstairs, and my 20 year old Sony SDTV can be put out to pasture.
DLP RPTV as my next TV (I have 2 Panasonic Plasma's) I am very happy with, but the World Cup Soccer tournament is coming this June with 25 matches being broadcast in 3D HDTV. So I looking for an economic 3D solution which will be a Mitsubishi 3D ready DLP RPTV (checkerboard 3D).
Plasma and LCD 3D solutions are priced too high and the screen sizes are generally to small for making the most out of 3D.
Can't beat a cheap DLP set for most bang and size for the buck. Also ,it only needs to last 2-3 years; and the money I will have saved vs buying a far more expensive 3D Plasma set, will enable me to buy a LCD/ Plasma for the savings 2-3 years down the road.
Still pretty impressed with my 5 Series Samsung LCD (LE40B530) - but I'll buy a plasma or possibly LED backlit LCD next time around.
3D & deeper blacks will be my main criteria.

I'm surprised you didn't include model numbers. Oh wait you did. Stop trolling!
I have a three year old Samsung plasma. Working just fine.
When it dies, I would imagine by then my new tv will have:
1080p
OLED
Wireless internet connectivity...almost to the point of just being another computer.
Maybe 3D as well.
I'm surprised the OLED count is so high.
How long do the OLED believers plan on waiting?
And what guarantee is there that OLED will be the almighty messiah they're hoping for?
Had a DLP projector for the past two years, getting tired of it. Not sure what ill get next. Thinking about plasma though. Ill be interested to see the results of this poll.
I don't watch 'TV' (just movies), and I am sick of little screens. Front projector it is.
That said, plasma over LCD.
If I get a new TV, it won't be till the end of the year. And it'd be the V25 Panny 50". The G/V series from last year was nice. The 'degrading' black issue isn't one to me. It's still blacker than anything out there. And it'd be going in a living room so it won't be set that low anyways. And it's a natural occurance in any TV.
You know I just bought my 55" 1080p LCD TV last quarter last year after replacing my broken 47" 1080p LCD. I'm not going to upgrade for awhile. I'd like to get a 3D TV but I do think in 2 or 3 years, they will have them without the need for glasses. And I think by then, OLED or something else will come out. So I plan on waiting a bit. But...I do love gadget so who knows if I really can wait that long! But of course the wife has the final say and normally, she says no to things like this. :(
I prefer DLP! More screen real estate for my money. LCDs are still way, way too much in the size that I like. I paid $1,500 for my 60in Samsung DLP almost 2yrs ago, LCDs in that size are still way, way too much money!!!
The only thing I'd need would be a larger TV, but with my living space it's not a high priority. Maybe by the time I do get a new TV, holographic televisions will be out and I'll actually be able to see 3-D movies. I'm certainly not going to worry about being able to watch the View-Master-esque 3-D movies that are available today. I'd actually prefer View-Master reels to the actual movie because at least those image won't be blurry going from scene to scene.
