Engadget HD Podcast 192 - 05.11.2010
It must be The Cable Show week, because we've got lots of news regarding your local TV providers, from new FCC regs allowing for Selectable Output Control, a new tru2way guide from Cox to debate over how people use DVRs and what the future of TV is. We've got some Blu-ray chat as well, from the newly 5.1's classic Psycho to DVD2BLU changes, plus what's coming up -- and what isn't -- from DirecTV. We'll wrap things up with Samsung and Panasonic's 3D glasses conundrum, new Energy Star requirements and a bit of dreaming about the HDTV we will have, or the home theater we wish we had.Get the podcast

I have been able to skip every Blu-ray preview: Samsung HT-BD1250 Firmware 2.20
@funkyp56
Interesting, have you rented Sherlock Holmes or The Blind Side? As these are the only two that I've seen that I haven't been able to skip -- the rental discs are different from the purchased ones.

Not everyone who uses the component outs on the STB does it because they love YPbPr. Connecting to my cable box (a DCH-3200) via HDMI only gets me a nice blue HDCP Error overlay in the middle of the TV :)
Quick comment about the iPhone app - for some reason (and I've been trying for a few weeks) I can't find the UStream link on the iPhone app. Is there any known problem with the iPhone UStream feed? (BTW, I can always see the Classic podcast on the app.)
Listening to episode 190 now. Sick of listening about Panasonic plasma and I really don't see what the fuss is about. Sure, the V series is probably great but it is out of the reach of many customers. When you go down to a lesser Panasonic plasma and compare it to a similarly priced LCD from a decent brand, plasma doesn't look all that great. I don't know about the US but in the UK the G20 series has all this 600Hz bluff that does not make it any better for motion than a 100Hz LCD. It's effectively 50Hz and is ok for motion on the horizontal plane but that's it! And 24p, of course, judders more on the plasma than it does on the LCD that can handle it correctly. The US has a bigger hard on for plasma than most European countries apparently! Why is that?
