Windows 7 Embedded doesn't support CableCARD, yet
Sure the final release of Windows 7 Embedded just got delivered to OEMs last week, but we were afraid that it might not be all its cracked up to be and wondered why CableCARD support wasn't mentioned in the original press release. Well we reached out to Microsoft and learned that the initial release of Windows 7 Embedded doesn't support CableCARD tuners. We're not sure if this is a CableLabs technicality or just one of those things, but Microsoft does expect to release a quality fix engineering (QFE) update by the third quarter of this year that will make things right. Lets just hope it's in time to be included in the first embedded box to market; and that there's nothing else we love that's missing.

Major Dissapointment
They say third quarter? Count on it being fixed third quarter 2012. What a pathetic effort on their part.
Can someone tell me if this could work as a standalone OTA DVR? Like Tivo without the fees, or a better version of the DTVPal DVR? It would be great to access all (most?) of the features of the full Win7 Media Center without the need to run a computer 24/7. All I am interested in is the OTA capabilities at this point. Thanks.
So, why's the picture so massive? It fills my entire screen vertically.
@engadgetcomexcludeengadget not if you run on a duel 24 inch lg screen at 1600x1050 each, it fits perfectly :P i suspect 1920 x 1080 res would fit even more better
I issue a challenge to Ben and Richard. I would like you guys to use your investigative journalism skills to find who is behind the conspiracy. And by conspiracy I mean the never end restrictions we the people get put on us just because we want to control our own DVR's. Why are they making it so hard for people to build or buy a dvr not issued by a cable or satellite company?
Come on Ben/Richard... help us expose the evil ones.
It's a shame its not there on release, but who among us were gonna buy a v1.0 of these things day and date?
At least we know they will be adding CableCARD support. Even if its somehow delayed until next year, like I say, none of us are even going to buy one of these things until next year.
