We thought it was pretty cheesy when cable operators
broadcast The Masters in frame compatible side by side 3D without
updating the set-top boxes,
which forced users to manually select the format with their 3DTV's remote, but this is much worse. Today
DirecTV started rolling out an update so its H21 and HR21 (and higher) receivers were 3D aware, but left the first generation H.264 HD receivers out. So instead of forcing customers to manually select side by side 3D, they have to upgrade their receiver. We're sure there are other benefits to the upgrade, like a 3D guide or something, and other features the latest hardware offers, but still. The other item of concern is that the set-top does check to make sure your 3DTV is up to the challenge and we've posted the compatible 3DTVs below. Just about every 3D set available today is on the list and even the older Mitsubishi DLPs will work if you have the checkerboard converter.

DirecTV really sucks.
This website needs some new talent. I'm a writer and I would do it.
The 0x3DE update has been rolling out for a week now on the non-HR20 boxes. Yesterday the 0x3DF update started going out to the HR20s, and the update blurb on the HR20 box talked about "3D." So, not sure how accurate your info is.
@kcmurphy88
I have an H20 series model and this sounds like bull-crap. Not you kcmurphy88, but DirectTV. Every subscriber of the satellite provider should get a free upgrade to the latest DVR period. Well, I guess every provider out there has there shortcomings. I will try this once I get home. Thanks for this important piece of information you provided us with.
@kcmurphy88
I'm on the line with DirecTV. This indeed is true that the 20 series boxes will not work with 3D. 21 series and later are the only ones that will work. I've threatened to leave the network and am now getting a free upgrade. They are even throwing in Sunday Ticket in for 100 bucks. Can't beat that.
@Ecran
What was the context of your phone call with them? Just you saying you had a HR20 and you wanted 3D or else you would cancel was enough to get them to upgrade you? Do you know what model they are going to upgrade you to?
You cant really expect 3D to work with all the DVR's out there. Its just one of the problems with being a early adopter, you eventually get the left behind.
Where can we get the Mitsubishi 3DC-100 dongle?
@Hoot google it
@Junyor Mynt
The only place I saw it at was 4electronicwarehouse.com, and it says it's not shipping until July 9th. How is the Mitsubishi TV "supported" for the DTV 3D launch next month when the box isn't coming out till July?
