Wii2HDMI does what its name indicates -- no more, no less
Just in case you can no longer stand your Wii hogging a component (or God forbid, composite) input, Wii2HDMI has come to the rescue as an easy plugin that gives you a digital connection. Of course, that's really all it does -- there won't be any 720p Wii gaming courtesy of this add-on, just the same old 480p you're used to. We're sure there's a setup or two that might benefit from something like this, but everyone else can just keep moving 'till the Wii HD -- or maybe Wii 3D -- arrives.

Waste of money! All your doing is adding another Digital to Analog conversion into the mix!!! The Xbox 360 had the same junk there for a while also until it was built into the 360. HDMI needs to be built into the Wii also to have direct Digital out to the HDTV. Pretty pointless for the current Wii.
Gimme a HD nintendo console with backwards comparability and I will be all over it, otherwise this price of junk coverter can't save my wii from it's dust covered neglect
@Joeyjoejoe Shabadoo
yeah, the recently release black Wii was dumb in my opinion. I'm not going to buy another Wii just for color (I've got black spray paint in the garage) and no one was waiting to buy a Wii cause it wasn't in colors, in fact everyone who wants one already has one, as evidenced by the drop in sales.
But if they had released a new Wii with native HDMI and maybe bluray or at least dvd support with upconversion, I'd have considered it.
@LazarusDark
I just want even 720p, give me some anti aliasing please. You loaded up twilight princess on a big tv (i'm using a projector so it doesn't help), even with an amp 'upscaling' it still looks horrible really kills the immersion :(
i actually dont think this is waste of money. Unless you spend 2k on a receiver most receivers won't output component over hdmi which means that you have to run 2 wires to your tv and handle the sound via a digital audio output seperately. This would make my wii a more permanent part of my system.
@normychas are there not a ton of yamahas and denons that upscale and output through HDMI?
@normychas They aren't that expensive, and there are also other component and composite components that still need a different input. This is just stupid.
Not useless. If you are running cables in a wall or ceiling, pulling only HDMI is a lot easier than pulling an additional 5 coax cables for component video & audio. A LOT easier, and potentially less expensive too. If you TV is right next to your A/V stuff, then yeah, you don't need it. Your set-up != my set-up.
Omg, that's just stupid.
As someone who sells/installs HT gear - EXCELLENT!!! There are times you are hooking up a TV sans receiver, and you have to deal with a pre-made 8' component cable (in-wall is the issue). This will make life much better.
@(Unverified) How about couplers to another component cable? If you couldn't think of that, you shouldn't be an HT installer
@(Unverified) There are plenty of solutions to that issue. As an installer, you should NOT be happy about ANYTHING HDMI. Especially when it's just a 480p Source anyways. I can see where this has it's place, but it is most certainly not in the custom AV world.

LOL. Thanks for playing.
I would give you the adult answer, but you just want to be an internet tough guy, so I'll leave you alone.
So the Wii and a monitor or TV are included?
Pretty good deal imo!
Makes my life way easier, this significantly cuts down on clutter in my setup where the bulky component cables dwarf all the other cables. This thing is a god send to some ppl.
So the Wii comes out with an HDMI setup to...avoid clutter? Genius. Why didn't they think of that sooner. Like in '06, maybe.
This new HDMI converter is utter poitless it a wast of money, time and a HDMI port on your tv.
This is not pointless if one has a receiver and still doesn't have a component+stereo cable (an all in one cable).
With this adapter is much easier to connect to a receiver
so this doesn't convert the analog back to digital or does it? anyone brave enough to get one to pick it up and take it apart to find out for sure?
There are 2 scenarios i can think of where one would want something like this:
1) Most obvious reason is less clutter (vs component cables)
2) Setups that run a very long video cable that may be prone to interference and signal degration. This where a digital connection would come in handy.
One feature they could have added would be an upscaler function that will upscale the 480p to either 720p or 1080p, which COULD improve quality on an HDTV if the HDTV does not already have a good quality scaler chip on it. Though I think if they did add an upscaler chip to the Wii2HDMI, that the price of the unit would almost double.
sweet, thanks for the post!
I can finally hook up a Wii in my theater now. Since my dad decided to only run 1 HDMI cable behind the wall from the receiver to the projector.
