Summer HDTV suggestions
Hopefully you're recovered from any Memorial Day barbecue related shenanigans because warm weather is here and your presence is needed -- inside watching TV. Heat and sunlight are the enemy, and there's plenty of programing to keep us where the air conditioning blows from now until the fall. Check GeekTonic for a list of summer TV programming, while our friends at TV Squad have tossed in a list of premieres, finales and specials for all of June -- our most anticipated shows are after the break, let us know what you'll be watching in the comments.
Burn Notice kicks off its fourth season this week, and while podcast listeners know we've had some questions about the film used and how it affects picture quality, the action on screen will keep us coming back as long as Michael Westen is doing his spy thing. expect plenty of thermite, beach scenes, car chases, explosions, and Bruce Campbell.
Burn Notice -- USA -- June 3, 9 p.m.

Lie to Me -- Fox -- June 7, 8 p.m.
You'd be surprised by how many situations can apparently turn on the ability to discern who is lying, about what and why but that's the premise week after week for this show on Fox. It's pretty similar in practice to House, which should be enough to keep it on for many summers to come.
The Closer -- TNT -- July 12, 9 p.m.
Brenda Lee has been coaxing criminals into confessions for five seasons already, and despite being just one of a number of procedurals on TV, this one seems to stay fresh and avoid becoming an also-ran, probably due to a solid cast and quality guest star appearances.
Entourage -- HBO -- June 27, 10:30 p.m.
Vince, E, Turtle and Drama are back and always entertaining. Coming into its seventh season, the boys antics are in danger of getting a little long in the tooth, but Jeremy Piven as Ari Gold will be enough to keep this one scheduled on the DVR every week.
Futurama -- Comedy Central -- June 24, 10 p.m.
Rescued from the Fox scrap heap, fan support has brought back Futurama and we're happy to see it, and happier to know it will be in sweet, sweet high definition. | Futurama | Weeknights, 9p/8c | |||

Rescue Me, Dexter, Weeds, Royal Pains, Psych, True Blood, Effing Science, Top Shot. Can't remember what else, but I'm sure there's more. Those first 3 all ended on a cliffhanger and I can't wait to see what happens!
I guess I should've looked at the link first. White Collar was awesome and the second season should be good too. Hung was kind of dumb, but different from everything else so I'll probably watch it again. The Good Guys pilot wasn't half bad either, so I look forward to watching that. I've never watched Penn and Teller, but I might check it out.
@engadgetcomexcludeengadget Love Dexter, but season won't start till Fall/Winter unfortunately. True Blood starts up again at around the time summer hits though, so thats a good one.
Where's "Breaking Bad"?
@engadgetcomexcludeengadget Royal Pains is great!
Eureka and Warehouse 13
@TrueEddie
I have to agree about Warehouse 13. It was one of the highest viewed shows last summer.
Here's an idea: Turn off the TV. Go boating, play some golf, try autocross racing. It's summer!
I love high definition video as much as anyone, but even a Pioneer KURO plasma television doesn't match the contrast ratio of outdoors, and even 7.1 Dolby TrueHD surround sound is no match for wind blowing in your face!
@erh I would disagree with your statement on sound. Most of the things in action movies you will never get to experience in real life, and if it did happen you'd be scared out of your mind and not about to think about how cool it sounds. Though going to a nascar race does sound much better in real life, and there's no substitute for funny cars with their smell, the fire, and the rumble when they take off down the track. Maybe you should be reading a nature blog if you wanna be outside so bad, or better yet go outside and gtfo the internet...
@erh Yeah, but you never drown, get bitten by a snake, tick, or rabid animal, get chiggers or poison ivy, sunburn, skin cancer, broken bones, cut of limbs, crash your car, flip your boat, or get stranded at sea when you're sitting in front of that glorious HDTV with a cold one. God bless the Great Indoors!
Burn Notice and White Collar are the two I'm most looking forward to...
And I think Human Target comes back soon too...
But I agree with erh...go spend some time outside! It's summer! Time for BBQs and fresh air!
Top Gear!! supposed to start late June I beleive.
Burn Notice is one of the stupidest/worst shows on TV. It has stupid inplausible stories and tries way too hard to be cool. It's like the A-Team meets Nash Bridges.
Oh, and anyone heard of some big soccer tornament this summer? I wonder if that will get any ratings?
Oh it's in 3D too? You don't say.
Lets not forget about leverage on tv.
@chestnu1 I ment for it to say tnt not tv sigh
Some may want to see Mad Men, "The Pillars of the Earth" miniseries, True Blood ...
Burn Notice - goofy fun
True Blood - Great mix of comedy and drama
Leverage - Like Burn Notice a nice fun show to watch.
Wipeout - There is something funny about watching people smack their heads into a giant rubber ball.
Eureka - Takes the Stargate mantle as the best lite SciFi series
Psych - More fun that is light years better than the high rated Mentalist.
I would say the award winning Closer and Leverage as well. Although it will be in 3D as well, let's not forget the World Cup starting the middle of June. Also try another show that
was picked up for another season called Hawthorne starring Jada Pinkett, Will Smith's wife. Oh, as much as people don't like it Hell's Kittchen premiered on Fox last night and chef
Ramsey shouldn't disappoint this season. Oh there's plenty of television to watch this summer. Top Chef D.C. Is also coming this summer as well on Bravo as well. Don't get me started with the lack of so-called quality programming some people claim is not there.
Anybody else see that "What is Burn Notice?" gameshow skit on SNL a few months back? It was hi-hilarity.
