They dropped those though when they got rid of the Pro and made the Elite cheaper.
It now costs more for an xbox with a hard drive and HD cables than it used to before the price "drop."
Since they got rid of the stuff that made the elite "elite" I don't know why they continue to call it that. $5? I doubt it costs Sony even a measly dollar to manufacture a cable. That's the extent of their outlay.

Some marketing droid would probably point out that by *not* including a cable they save a dollar and some people would even buy the official cable for $30 which makes Sony and the store happy. That's likely the reason that MS don't bundle the cable either.

And it's kind of like complaining that a printer manufacturer doesn't include a USB (or parallel, etc.) cable. Some people, like myself, buy HDMI cables when I bought my TV knowing that my components wouldn't include them.

I'd rather buy them when I need them (and at the quality and length I choose) than have 10 of the things lying around unused.

IDK, but seems kind of iffy to run a story about a manufacturer including/not including cables with their product. They included cables, but not ones you could play in HD with. Requiring an aftermarket accessory to make use of the core feature of a mass market aimed product is ridiculous and shameful.

If an HDMI cable were included with my nephew's xbox, it would be sitting in a drawer. He doesn't have an HDTV.

If a USB cable were included with my printer, it would be sitting in a drawer. I use the wireless option instead.

For me, it's about having ONE CABLE to connect to one input for both video and audio, rather than having to make five different connections (YPbPr + R/L Audio).

I had component and HDMI cables out the yin yang though. I've always tripped off people saying they paid 60 bucks for a damn HDMI cable.
