It looks like one of
DirecTV's astronauts had
more trouble flipping switches than their DISH counterparts, after a software or guide data update last night knocked out HD DVRs all over -- and not for
the first time. Currently the only advice needed to get back in working order is to reset the box twice (there's a red button on the front, underneath the flap) within a thirty minute period (the official website indicates you can wait as little as 15 seconds between resets) and all should be well, but good luck getting through to customer service to get that message right now. Countdown to an
apology starts... now.
[Thanks to everyone who sent this in]
Update: According to DirecTV's website, a "transmission glitch" was to blame and it has automatically reset affected receivers from its end, so no further red button pushing should be necessary. [Thanks, Blake!]
@benchase7 Free for life, or until they decide to increase the overall programming cost for no particular reason because they realized that giving people HD service for free is costing them money. Yeah?
By the way when the update was finished it said dish is ready for 3D.
My mutha reset her DVR once, only once...
I work with directv and this was a nightmare. They did a mass reboot that should have fixed the problem about 2 hours ago.
I almost forgot until I read this.....Where is DirecTV's TiVo HD DVR they said would come this year? I want them to get this thing out soon!
I'm waiting for all the upset posters who are going to ditch their DTV and get a EVO 4 because that fixes all ails.
I just unplugged it twice and all is well. Mine has had a 3-5 second lag when hitting buttons in the remote since day one though. Pisses me off!
The headline is WAY WRONG. Only a few idiots blamed the TWO WEEK OLD software update (that they had just noticed). The strong consensus is that it was a data-driven lockup, as has happened twice before.
Yikes.. yea I work for Sharp and we got a whole bunch of calls about this. People tend to freak out when their HD TVs don't work right.
