Lord of the Rings movies break out of the box set, hit Blu-ray individually 9/14
Yes, there's new Lord of the Rings Blu-ray news and no, it isn't the Extended Editions of the movies. If the pressure of buying the boxed set is just too much to bear don't worry, this fall you'll finally be able to buy each movie individually (we prefer to skip to RoTK, we're impatient like that.) September 14 is the date they go on sale with $24.98 MSRPs and identical features to their boxed counterparts, minus a digital copy, can we start the countdown to the release of the EE yet?

Stop with this "milking' of the regular editions and JUST RELEASE THE FRIGGIN' EXTENDED EDITIONS ALREADY!!!!!!!!!
I've already accepted the fact that George Lucas is the "Master Milker" of this most annoying of sales marketing tactics because I'm used to owning 50 different editions of Star Wars, but I REFUSE to do this with LOTR Blu-Ray... Enough of this S-H-I-T!!!! (Note: I do Love the LOTR series though!)
@masYmas Well said... +1
@masYmas Yah, those jerks and their making of options for consumers, how dare they.
@masYmas Oh come on, you can't compare LotR to the milking of the Star Wars series. They're completely different - one tries to sucker you in, the other keeps you completely informed so you can make your own decision.
Lucas tells you "Last chance ever to buy Star Wars!", then releases a special edition. Jackson says "We're releasing the standard edition first, with these special features, and we'll be releasing the SEE editions on this date, and they'll have these other features, with no overlap if you choose to buy both".
@Picasotriggerfish
But where is my extedned edition option?
Thats funny, here in Australia you cant get them in a box, they are all separate.
How backwards.
I'd rather rent it or catch it on TBS every other weekend that shell out for the BR until they release the extended version.
Zzzzzzzzzzzz. Multi-branching dual edition, please.
EXTENDED EDITIONS OR BUST!
I agree. If there isn't an Extended Edition release for Blu-Ray I will not purchase them. I am used to watching the Extended Editions now and seeing the films in the standard theatrical release is just a bummer as a Tolkien fan. I went ahead and upconverted my Extended Edition DVD's to 1080p format just so I could enjoy them in a pseudo-hd format.
