I'll wait for Harmony to come out with a Bluetooth/IR remote that doesn't require a dongle. I can always give my fiancee my current Harmony when they do.
From www.blu-raydisc.com:
"The name Blu-ray came from the fact that the laser beam which reads the data from the new discs is blue instead of red which is used for current DVDs and CDs. This new blue laser is at the heart of Blu-ray Disc technology (i.e. blue ray of light)."

The term "Blue Ray" couldn't be used because it isn't a copywritable phrase.

Funnily enough, the confusion around the name hasn't hurt sales. I guess as long as they keep it in a Blue case, it'll be easy enough to find at your local Best Buy...

It would be awesome if these "Blu-ray HD DVD" Players were combo players at $299. But that's just wishful thinking...
This is really ridiculous. If your format is the dominant one, you don't NEED to have a "buying day" to support it. You should be able to just make your purchases anytime.

>But how many first-person-shooter movies are there? Oh. Doom. But that's only on HD DVD.

I bought my PS3 specifically as a Blu-ray Disc player. And I own a standalone HD DVD player. I haven't bought Doom. Just because its primarily a Video game machine doesn't mean some people haven't bought it primarily as a cheap Blu-ray player.
So HD DVD has sold the same number of players as Casino Royale has sold Blu-ray Discs...
If HD DVD can get Fox or Disney to switch, we'll have a real fight. But with Universal as their only exclusive backer, I'm reluctant to buy anymore HD DVDs. Cheaper players don't help if you can't get the movies you want on the format. I'm sure more than one HD DVD owner picked up a PS3 this year.
Now I have to decide whether to order this player, or wait for a PS3...

Did anyone catch the BDP-S1's cameo in Casino Royale?
Already got 3 Extra Wiimotes and Nunchaku, plus 2 virtual console controllers. Y'know, since I have the extra $600 lying around now...
Walmart doesn't make any money on PS3 anyway. He could have bought the console with no accessories and games, and buy those at Best Buy. That'll show 'em!
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I just moved into a new apartment and have been reading about all of the new power strips out there, especially the green ones. I was wondering if you had any suggestions about which "green "power strips are out there with decent joules ratings. And when I say green, I mean power strips that have the remotes or switches to turn off all electricity flowing to certain plugs and with at least 2 plugs that are always on. I was looking specifically at sub $50 because I will need two, but if that is not possible I could be convinced otherwise. Thanks!"
