@Arun Balan they already have a map showing where users have dropped.

I believe it's everything in orange and beige.
@thedman07: that's f'cking hilarious. You must be thinking of the American English to Universal translation feature coming in 2.0.

Interesting... Please tell me more about your strategy of sourcing nonexistent components from nonexistent American suppliers and sourcing nonexistent components from existing American suppliers. I am looking to invest in such an all-American electric car, please contact me at nigerianprince@hotmail.com with your business plan.

Throwback - I totally agree. Having spent many a day walking faster crosstown than the 50th St. bus during rushhour, I can also attest that fare collection is definitely not the problem. The crosstown lines are slow because of traffic. Why not designate a few of the smaller crosstown streets as 2 way bus only streets? 50th St for example is small with not much commercial frontage except it cuts right through Rockefeller Center.

The only reason Bloomberg is proposing this is to win pre-election points. He has no power to implement his proposal so he can easily blame MTA for being obstructionist.
Ten percent of the market in Q1 2009 is considered low? There are 17 million iPhones out there and 65% of all mobile web traffic originates from iPhones or iPod Touches. Have you been to NYC or SF? Practically every other person you see under the age of 35 has an iPhone. I don't have numbers but I would guess those are Zipcar's two biggest markets. So to answer your question, yes, the iPhone and Zipcar demographics overlap nicely and no, the iPhone is not a "low marketshare" non-competitor.

As a Zipcar member, I would guess that most of their clientele are urbanites who wouldn't be caught dead in a GM or Chrysler. Sorry, but they just don't make cars that appeal to those who don't have an under-developed sense of manhood. For those who live in major cities, it simply doesn't make economic sense to spend $1000/month on parking, car payments, insurance, gas and maintenance on something that will rarely leave the garage.

Kool - If you like to give money to those that make inferior products out of some twisted sense of morality, then by all means. I prefer spending my money on those that are willing to earn it. Remember to return all that stuff you bought from China on your way out the door.
I just saw the Model S at the Plaza Hotel, that is one beautiful car. They had trouble getting the silver one out of the truck when I left but they had the white Model S (nonfunctional?) and the Roadster parked on the street. There were Interesting comments from random people in the crowd but in general Tesla has done wonders improving the perception of electric vehicles in the general population.
Millions of moving parts, expensive LED edge lighting, patterned light guide and electronics backplane, 57% optical efficiency, tight manufacturing tolerances for the air-gap, the list goes on and on. Good luck getting that out the door! Sorry but the future belongs to emissive technologies like OLED.
Wow, that is the most amazing conflation of thoughts I have seen in a long time. Central Planning Communists, Big Corporation step-on-the-little-guy Conservatives and Environmental Progressives all in the same bed? Who's left? 2-shotguns-and-a-cabin-in-the-woods Libertarians?

Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I'm looking for a pair of quality headphones that aren't seemingly made of glass. I'm an avid BMXer which causes me to frequently bash on any type of technology that joins me for my daily riding. I've been through the higher quality headsets in the Skullcandy line as these are supposed to be built for "abuse," which is laughable. I cant wear earbuds or canal buds, as my large ears seem to have a repelling property upon anything that sits in them. Wired or Bluetooth doesn't really matter, but I need something that can hold up to taking a few hits every now and again. I'm trying to keep 'em under $150. Thanks!"
