Well that's the last straw. Meedios, I'm coming back to your always accommodating arms.

Can BD players play DVDs with MPG files burned onto them? Not many regular DVD players play those either - and I have a ton of home movies - vacations, wedding, kids, etc. that I still want to play in the future and right now the only standalone DVD player that plays them with any consistency is my crappy upconverting Pioneer I picked up on sale somewhere unless I decide to play it directly from my HTPC. I owned an upconverting Sony for all of 2 days before taking it back to the store because it wouldn't play MPG files off the DVD. That doesn't give me any hope that a BD player will accommodate any of my older recordings.

Also, why the hell can a regular DVD format only support 2 hours of home movie when as an MPG file I can sqeeze in 6+ hours onto that very same DVD and I don't notice a loss in video quality?

BD players need to be more than standard DVD backward compatible. Can they play VCDs? SVCDs?

It's also another reason why I won't be buying a BD player until BD recorders are available for my HTPC for around $200. That way I can probably burn 20+ hours of home recordings to the Blu discs and at least play it on my TV via my HTPC since there's no way to rely on standalone BD players to be consistent in this regard.
If you have an HTPC, you can pick up a Blu player for it for 140 bucks on newegg. That's how I'm planning on going once a Blu Writer comes out for under 200 for an HTPC.

Standalone players are so last century :)

It'd be nice if Verizon actually spent some money rolling FIOS out to some of Boston's suburbs instead of all this advertising. I live 10 minutes T ride from downtown Boston and there's still no FIOS in my neighborhood.

This is what happens when we let uneducated immigrants into this country - their english is so bad that they cannot tell the difference between homosexuality, heterosexuality and pedophilia.

Well, this article explains why Dinesh has his panties in a knot - apparently he's somewhere in the middle of the gay-straight scale so he thinks it's a choice!
Thankfully my god Agnos looks down favorably on those who have sex with other adults of the same gender. Agnos, the god of the future and technology says that now that science can be used to propagate the human species, there is no longer any need for heterosexual coupling and all those who do so are sinners.

So stop living in the past with Ancient Greeks whose civilization crumbled, stop worshiping a Biblical god that was only fit for middle eastern tribes and join the church of Agnos today.
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I am looking for a device that will stream sound from one source to several recipients. For example, I want to stream sound from my TV or stereo to my phone or MP3 player that has radio and Bluetooth capabilities. I have looked into radio transmitters and they seem like a decent choice, but I can't find one that uses external power (USB or from the plug) and I would want one with a transmit range of around 50 meters. Thanks!"
