Garmin's devices do not update "over the air"...the device was going through an update process which made it look like it was being pushed out over the air. There are two known issues (one of which is resolved by the new firmware update released yesterday) - one with the "update" process starting and getting stuck in a loop. The second is where the device will not power own where an exchange is required.

Keep in mind that the impact to Garmin's consumer base was large...so most like they wait time on the phone with Product Support is a direct reflection of the number of customers which had problems.

Pass the word along...the link above takes you to their support site where you can obtain an update for the first issue. I updated mine and I'm good to go!
Hey everyone! Looks like Garmin has come through with a fix; just in time too! I've posted two links below which speak directly to Garmin's ability to quickly provide a fix for these issues. The issue where the device would read "Updating GPS Firmware" has been resolved with an update to the devices firmware.

According their support site

Question: My nuvi 755T, 765T, 77T or 785T is giving me the message "Updating GPS Firmware" or will no longer power on after receiving this message....

Answer: If your device is repeating the message "Updating GPS firmware" or "GPS Update Complete", a software update is now available for you to update your device to correct this issue. Please use our Webupdater program to install this update onto your device.

Note - the issue where the device will not POWER ON...requires an exchange of the device. Click on the link below for more information.

I just updated my 755T - No longer having the issue!

I love my Garmin!

--It appears Garmin is receiving a lot of bad press because of this issue. People have to understand that software / firmware can contain bugs. Bugs can be fixed! How many times have you had issues with your mobile phone or Windows XP? Software updates come out to fix these issues and enhance the product. Garmin has done an excellent job with quickly releasing an update for this issue. I don't recall ever having an issue like this...I've had three different Nuvi's (starting with the Nuvi 350).
Only issues I've had so far:

1.) After the battery died, I plugged in power cable to recharge it. It appeared to be recharging due to the big battery recharge image which took up the full screen. After about 45 minutes I decided to turn it back on. With it still plugged into to the wall, I pressed the power on key. Nothing happened...tried and tried again but nothing happened. I had to take the battery out to get it to boot back up.

2.) After I upgraded WebOS to 1.0.2 I had one small problem with the application I was running freezing. I don't recall which application it was...sorry. But I had to pull the battery out again and reboot.

Other than that, I'm waiting on Sprint to correct any issue with a tower that's close to us. We don't get service in our house and it's only showing one bar when I'm outside. Oh...I live in KC by the way, with the Sprint World Headquarters down the road, I'm hoping they'll get to it ASAP!

Other than that, I'm extremely impressed with my Pre.
Actually...yes they do. The later series Garmin units do come with the option to use QWERTY. My nüvi 755T has QWERTY which is great! The older series (not sure when it was introduced) did not have that feature.

The new units are already posted on Garmin's website. Looks like they've made them thinner as well. Way to go Garmin!

Fill me in on how that's a waste of money. 1.) Extends the life of my XBOX 360, 2.) I now have 6 of my favorite movies available in HD to watch for the rest of my life, plus what I mentioned above. To me that's worth a measely $49.
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I am looking for a device that will stream sound from one source to several recipients. For example, I want to stream sound from my TV or stereo to my phone or MP3 player that has radio and Bluetooth capabilities. I have looked into radio transmitters and they seem like a decent choice, but I can't find one that uses external power (USB or from the plug) and I would want one with a transmit range of around 50 meters. Thanks!"
