WHERE IS MY NFL NETWORK?

i don't care who's right or wrong, you're both wrong as long as i don't have nfl network.
very much shafted.

skiffy was asked directly on their own forum whether this week's preview would be a full episode or not. they were asked clearly and repeatedly all week. they gave no answer. this was a dick-yank to drive numbers up for some jerk's powerpoint presentation.

they kept the numbers high for the webcast, the forums took a boots after the surprise, and the the audience needs to tune in to watch later tonight too. win win win for them.
it's simple math.

nbc has a show they're not very confident in. normally they would run an advertising campaign to build interest leading up to the season premiere, and then they make their profits through advertising.

now with this deal, directv pays nbc a butt-load of cash for the rights to air it first. directv pays for their own marketing of the event. directv subscribers tune in and start generating buzz. torrent downloads go through the roof and generate more buzz. then when they air the show after the superbowl, when america craves football tv, even if it's teen melodrama football tv, they can charge even more for advertising than they could have otherwise.

so with the original plan they make ad money.
with the new plan they make more ad money + directv money.

looks like someone over there finally figured out that torrent piracy doesn't really hurt their bottom line in the slightest. :)
actually i believe The Wire is done in HD but in a 4:3 aspect ratio as an aesthetic choice.
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I've found myself using my PC for a lot of conversations lately, and I'm also considering recording a podcast to share with anyone who will listen. There are tons of USB headset / microphones out there, and I'm hoping someone has some solid recommendations based on experience. I'll consider both headsets and standalone mics, by the way, but I'd like to keep the bill under $100 if possible. Help!"
