Now that i think about it, this controller is probably designed only to work with Samsung products and only over WiFi or Ethernet. Still, I would love to get my hands on one and see how it does what it does, and how much it could support custom integration.
that looks great... it's amazing that a company who doesn't specialize in control has made this beautiful tablet. if it has a decent PC editor for custom graphics, the ability to paste hex codes and access IR, serial and IP command databases, and becomes available in the US at a price point comparable to RTI and Pronto, that will be interesting.
The RTI U2 is way cooler. a lot more expensive, but it actually will send RF to its base station from more than 12" under water. that's impressive. plus it has a screen and stuff.

thank you John, for being the voice of reason i was too lazy to be!

and people, if you think $1500 is outrageous to control AV, HVAC, lighting, security etc., you just don't have a fraction of a clue. you probably have never heard of Crestron or AMX, but if you want to expand your electronics world, check them out online. $100,000+ for a control system is very common in large residential applications.
There are still two companies I know of that make only high resolution displays:
Sim2: http://www.sim2.co.uk/frameset_video_enter.php
Runco: http://www.runco.com/about.html
neither of them are japanese.
as far as LosCA's original comment, I'd say Sim2, Runco, Pioneer, Panasonic and Samsung are the top 5 brands of HDTVs. Like Jay asked, what brands do you like?
jonny, before you correct Darren's wording, maybe you should double check your own:
"manufacturer VIZIO has asked requested that"
pick one!
"by the FCC to when"
obviously the 'to' does not belong here.
"thus", you fail.
you don't need a macro to turn off the PS3:

PRONTO HEX:

this has been working for quite some time, not sure if a recent firmware update has disabled it as i don't own a PS3, but haven't had any clients call me yet wondering why the PS3 won't shut off.
i thought this was engadget? are you all really using logitech harmony remotes????
seriously? come on people! you don't have to spend a lot to get a remote that's 1000% better than harmony. it's not a question of price, it's a question of whether you need an online "wizard" to program it. i would think the readers here would be more than capable of this, and would understand the horrific weakness embodied by the harmonies... in the consumer AV world, harmonies are a joke. period.

look at the URC RF30:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16880120003&nm_mc=OTC-C173T&cm_mmc=OTC-C173T-_-Digital+Media+Remote-_-Universal+Remote+Control-_-80120003
$70 gets you a much more capable platform, which can then be paired with an MRF100 for another $50 if you'd like to locate ALL your gear in another room, not just the PS3.

i was confused when i read the line "That dreaded Bluetooth control protocol cuts out the vast majority of remotes from consideration". that's crazy talk. also, someone mentioned that sony "overlooked" the IR sensor. i laughed out loud. how many bluetooth remotes has sony sold, and how much more profit is there in accessories than components? helloooo....

full disclosure: i'm a custom installer who routinely installs $1k+ control solutions, so i may be a tad biased, but again, the URC i mentioned is cheap, much more customizable and easier to use than any harmony. harmony = the bose of the control industry.
did they shut if of or did they shut if off?
just to add to your excellent review:
sony didn't have to include a headset, any bluetooth headset works with the PS3, just like a cellphone. :)
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I need help! I want a small pocket camcorder but I'm not sure which one to get. I don't want to fall into the hype of the Flip because I worry two hours won't be enough. What should I be looking for when considering a small camcorder and where can I get a good quality one with expandable memory? Thanks!"
